Good solid success for you badger, after 4 days AF how does the Nal affect you, I find that I'm starting to get very nauseous taking the Nalmefene after several days off the medication which is a real turn off for drinking only once or twice a week.

4 AF days in a row is truly significant and if they are effortless then that's the icing on the cake.

After the fourth day, what's your rationale for drinking, in my own case the gremlins are still in there somewhere and trying to take the final step to complete indifference has not happened.

AF days are now routine and as with yourself effortless but I maybe in the early days of setting a new routine. Drinking once or twice a week!

thanks TT. I haven't had four consecutive days yet - it was two lots of two

I can't say that I've noticed any SE's on taking the Nal(trexone) after a few days off, but Nal-overs are definitely a reality now

as for rationale for drinking, it's all rather uncharted territory still. I feel like I still have some extinction left to go as I'm still drinking more than I'd like when I do drink, but I'm not forcing it, if I don't want a drink then I don't have one

as for the new "normal", I'll just take it as it comes, who knows how I'll feel in a few more weeks? if I end up basically AF with maybe an occasional social drink, & I'm happy with that, then so be it

That is incredible progress Badger! Your graphs are very helpful
and it is exciting to see you had such a significant breakthrough in week 12! Besides it being quite a bit lower it is also great you went 4 days with no alcohol! Looking forward to being where you are at! :)

I'd like to know what NAL over is, as well.

it's where you get more of a hangover from drinking+Nal than you might expect from drinking the same amount without Nal. it seems to happen quite often when you drink relatively little (compared to what you used to). it seems to be quite a common experience, but I don't think I've ever seen an explanation for it

hope that makes sense :)

Thanks Badger - this will be interesting then 'cos I never drink enough to get a hangover - I cannot remember the last hangover that I had. I think that my body is SO used to drinking Guinness/Murphy's that I can have at least 6 before I feel anything the next day - and even then am not sure it would be a hangover - which is NOT good that I can do that - anyway so, one would have to drink quite a bit to get a Nal-Over ? Hmmm, interesting !!

Hugs, Maggie x

I've read somewhere that nal overs are significant as they might have been when we first started drinking all those years ago.

Hangovers for newbie drinkers could be enough to stop a normal person in their drinking careers before it even starts. However as we drink more and more the hangovers are tolerated or even become part of life as a small distraction because the want to drink is supreme.

Nal overs can be very harsh and maybe part of a new learning curve as we begin to pull away from daily drinking. In my own case even a small amount of drink can cause more unpleasant effects than I ever had when drinking even very large amounts.

Hope this makes sense.

Badger, I talked with you on another site and have downloaded the book. My doctor won't give me the medication. She said only certain doctors can give it in NYstate. I wonder if she just doesn't want to give it to me. I am finding this Nal over thing interesting. I can't tell if you get it when you drink too much or when you don't drink much. I told Maggie I would order the meds from Riverside if she won't give it to me. I thought she misunderstood so I took over information in an envelope. It will be two weeks tomorrow and I haven't heard from her.
Any advice would be a appreciated.

hi meggie,

nice to see you here :)

I'm in the UK, so I can't really comment on getting Nal is the US, although plenty of people seem to to buy it successfully over the internet there. I'm sure someone can recommend somewhere - I think I've seen Alldaychemist mentioned a few times:

http://www.alldaychemist.com/naltima.html

best of luck :)
