I started NAL last October and my unit intake has gone from a low of 26 to a high of 61, this past week being 51. Probably 4 months total, following the Golden Rule without exception. I drank for over 40 years, slowly progressing from a weekend warrior to a daily drinker. I read frequently that the longer you drink the longer the extinction takes. I get the feeling though that I'm drinking out of pure habit, and that I could do more to limit and then stop. Should I redouble my efforts to cut down and have more AF days? Or just let the NAL work over time and not worry over it. Any thoughts?

Two things, firstly 4 months is not a long time, some TSmers have found it takes 6-12 months to see a real difference.

Second yes some people do report that actively chosing to limit drinks helps them to turn the corner and break the mental habit.

I can only give you my experience, I didn't manage to force AF days, (weak willed). TSM kicked in around week 14/15 and it took over. There was no effort on my part what so ever.

If you can force AF days it can't do harm I guess but if you follow the GR things will happen sooner or later anyway of that I'm sure.

Good luck and see you on the other side

I agree with thistime, as long as you continue to follow the golden rule I don't think you'll screw anything up by experimenting with AF days or putting effort into changing bad habits. I just knocked off 6 AF days in a row and it seems strange but I think that's mostly because I'm so unaccustomed to it.

In the back of my mind I know I have nal on my keychain and that simple fact takes a load off my shoulders and gives me confidence. Three months of TSM for me has made a HUGE difference, but I still have habits and triggers to deal with but I think those are more mental than physical.
