I was going to ask how the holiday weekend went then realized you are in the UK. So, how did your weekend go NigelR?

Hi nigelr, this is what melissa said on my weekly update post about different alcohol?

My own observation, just from hanging around here, is that beer drinkers tend to respond more quickly, wine drinkers more slowly, and liquor drinkers almost randomly.

Sounds like you have been drinking wine like me and I know it is still early for both of us for our numbers but hey I am going to switch to beer and give that a try and see how things go. A glass of red wine is much more preferable to me on a cold wintery night than a beer for sure but if this is the sacrifice I have to make for TSM then what the heck .
Beer isn't a drink I would ever normally have but when I get to Mexico it will be much more appealing to me in the heat and much cheaper too as a decent bottle of wine there is not cheap.
I know there is nothing in The Cure for Alcohol book about this but just thought I would mention this if this can help us along?

sorry I haven't responded to the replies, I am very busy at work, so great you all here to back me up

all41 that's really encouraged me thank you, I hadn't thought of it that way.

I had an af day yesterday with ease.

saw gp today, my liver functions were fine and she is 100% supporting me with Nal

Yawn, all the same really, but as I said elsewhere I do feel I am getting somewhere. Of course I want my figures in the 20's but I do see a change. Met up with old friends this weekend, normally a BOOZE session, I did drink heavily but not as heavily as normal, and in fact on one evening I didn't go out to pub for last orders. My figures I guess would have been really good had I not had those two heavy nights.

I hear you. I thought I was heading for a good week too, but I had a successful hunt and ended up "celebrating" the harvest.

How would you scale your craving from when you started and where you are now two months in?

glad to hear your LFT's came back clean - good news :)

I know what you mean about overdoing it - I'm still drinking way too much at the weekend. I don't really have the "must have more" craving any more, but I'm still drinking it, maybe out of habit, maybe subconsciously chasing the buzz

Yes it's weird, I don't have the crazy I must drink till I drop feeling anymore and cravings are very much down..... habit is still there and that combined with a green light to drink cos I have had a Nal can be bad news

Lastly I worry about how blocking the opiate receptors is effecting everything else, I lay in bed yesterday morning with nothing to do all day and just couldn't be bothered, normally I would go off on a long walk, go see a film, or garden, but I just didn't feel like doing anything.

I worried about that, too, especially since I've been prone to getting "blue" and being disinterested in doing things. After more than a year on TSM, I've found it's not a worry for me. Hasn't really been an issue. If anything, my mood has gotten better with less alcohol in my life.

So far, you're off to a solid start. Good luck!

so now 2 months in....

69 units this week, at least I am staying the same level; its just a shame its not going anywhere.

I have to admit to getting back into the terrible thing of waking at 3am and berating myself for yet again drinking too much every night. Boring to go over it as nothing has changed but I am drinking out of habit and worry that taking Nal gives me the nod to just drink as much as I like.

Does anyone else feel that Nal makes them grumpy/a bit hostile, I know during the hour I have to wait that I can be very touchy so normally take myself off somewhere.

I think at the moment I just cant see a point where I will naturally become indifferent, I still think every day about drink and whether I will be, the positives are small I am afraid and I almost have to search to see them, do I have less craving? yes but maybe its because I know I can drink and when and whatever I like so the demon is sated.

Sorry to be down, but I have tried positive thinking and trying to find good changes but if I am honest I just don't feel much has changed, in fact I am drinking more as I am not forcing AF days, I am not even mindful about drinking, I just look forwards to the end of the day and that beer followed by a bottle of wine.

I will stick to it, I have 3 months worth of pills

Pre TSM 30-45 un/wk 1af/wk us units
0 43/0 no nal 6 39/0
1 40/0 7 37/0
2 29/2 8 34/0
3 44/1
4 35/2
5 31/3
