My nalovers came further on in the process and would occur on unrelatedly low amounts of alcohol, I remember a nalover from 6 units - so a fifth of what would previously make me ill. It just made me not want to drink and helped me cut down even further

What's up with this?

Last night I had only 2.8 USA drinks/units, which is way low for me, and this morning felt like total crap................talk about disincentive.

what i am hearing is that the less you drink, the worst of a nalover you have. i would guess that it would thus make you want to avoid the nalover by not taking nal and thus not drinking. i dont know for sure though.

Yup, I've had a couple that came from nowhere and they were brutal.

I have had a few mornings/days feeling very spacey, uncomfortable and anxious with nagging headaches, but nothing like the hangovers I use to get. My old hangovers were physically brutal, and always accompanied by massive guilt and remorse that were emotionally staggering.

Sort of on a related note and something pleasantly unexpected is that I have gone from 8-10 cups of coffee in day - throughout the day - to one, maybe two. Uncanny the similarity to the quantities and progressions pre and post Nal with alcohol. I actually just don't remember to drink it and when I do, just don't want it. I imagine my headaches are related to caffeine withdrawal versus a Nal-over, but even knowing this while I am having a headache, I still don't want to drink more than a cup or two.

Triplab I'm sure caffeine plays a role in the management equation for a lot "functional alcoholics", and it's ultimately just a grind-your-body-down detrimental cycle. I'm a daily drinker so my morning coffee has always been my antidote to the chronic aftermath of the evening before.

Last night I put away the beer and finished the evening with 2 glasses of H2O and a cup of decaf before bed, something I rarely do.........but THAT cup of coffee tasted really good.

Triplab, I can't help wondering if a No-Doze or similar would alleviate your symptoms. Is it worth a try? I mean, since you're not trying to ditch caffeine. There's nothing inherently wrong with extinguishing caffeine-seeking, but it might make this period rougher.

Hi folks, my theory on why the Nalovers seem to come out of left field with moderate amounts of alcohol for some of us is that; one, We are decreasing our alcohol intake which really pisses off the endorphins and two, those endorphins that have been used to responding to the alcohol can't because of the Naltrexone. I suppose it is a detox symptom since I have experienced bad headaches from detoxing without the Nal, and when I take the Nal and decrease my drinking levels, it is that much worse. Hopefully this is an extinguishing burst. Just a thought. Keek

kekede I disagree I think it is the Nal+alcohol that gives the Nalover. I have not cut back on my drinking in fact realistically I am drinking more so it has nothing to do with decreasing my intake at all. I think Nal is just kick ass and when it has a certain level of alcohol (different for each person) it creates this Nalover. I know I get one with less drinking than pre TSM, so if I drink less than 1 bottle of wine I am OK, more and look out!
I think it is maybe a good thing so that we cringe at drinking more with the consequences of a Nalover. Which is how a normal drinker would feel drinking only a few drinks and then feeling sick. :o

That's the great part, isn't it? The nal-over sucks, but as our addiction breaks we can start learning from that consequence instead of just treating it as an inescapable force of nature. We can escape it now.
