I am very happy to see this site come into existence. The support of our mutual collaboration on the Sinclair Method Journey is so very helpful.

For us:

- Alcohol + Naltrexone = Cure
- Support and encourage The Sinclair Method.

My personal update:

I had obtained Dr. Sinclair's book, but was waiting on my Internet order of Naltrexone. I cannot wait until the end of Feb to start this. I am going to go see my PCP tomorrow and demand Naltrexone. I was nervous about this getting on my medical records, but I think I was being too paranoid.

I will report more tomorrow afternoon.

Best to all!

Hi, I just had to post somewhere. I am not sure if this is the right thread but anyway. Today, Feb 6th is my 4 months of taking Naltrexone one hour before each time I have had any alcohol. I started the method October 6th/08. I bought the book in the last week of September last year . Read it and got Nal from my doc and the rest is history. I am truly happy with the fact that my consumption has lowered quite significantly and the negative consequences I have had iin the past for overindulging have not occurred, nor has the overindulging, since the beginning of Dec/08. My smoking has increased a bit and that is a concern. Anyone noticing any changes like that? Best wishes to all and it is a great day for me!! Thanks for sharing with me through this time. :D

Potato - yup, you posted in the right place. We'll start a new thread called "Week of..." each week and everyone can ost their progress there. Some people want to have their own thread and that's fine too. I'll probably move those off into a separate area though. Maybe. I dunno.

Glad you're doing well! I'm coming up on three months soon. My consumption is way down too but I've had some moments in the last couple of weeks...

I am at about 3 and a half weeks. This week I plan to start charting my craving and keeping the drinking diary. I have put off counting my drinks because as a drink sneaker it can be hard to count. My 18 yr. old daughter is living with me and I sometimes add a splash of vodka to my peppermint tea. I have never been a vodka drinker. Feeling the need to sneak can itself be a trigger. It's sort of hard to describe unless you have experienced it. Sort of feeling panicky at the thought that I might not be able to drink if I "need" one and that gets me obsessing. I have some empties of those little airline bottles and, using the measures in Eskapa's book, I'll fill them about 7/10 full (50 ml bottles of 40 proof) to measure a 1.25 oz unit. Hiding little bottles feels sneaky but I will sneak anyway and this way I will be able to chart my drinking.

The "missing chapter" from Eskapa's book on the FAQ topic is full of information new to me. One thing that jumped right out at me is that naltrexone seems to suppress the stimulating effect of the first few drinks that can lead to being talkative. Absolutely. That's why I can sit around and read or watch tv with my daughter and she has no clue I've been drinking because I'm so quiet.

Can't wait to be free of the secrecy. I definitely feel the grip loosening. I just seem to be thinking less about drinking. You'd never know by all the posting but I have a lot enthusiasm for this project!

Keep sharing -- Lena

N101CS, Great progress at three months. I had times as well where I wondered hmmm, what is it that I am doing exactly. Especially when after like a great 2 weeks them pow, I got drunk one night. I found this happened more in the first 2 months for me. I am pleased though but stress does not help. Putting my dad in a care home Tuesday. Have no choice, he is unmanageble. But just the way it is all being handled by me using the method is very encouraging. I wish you great progress. I have written everyday on my calender when I have had alcohol and how much I've had. The general trend has been about half or less than what I used to consume in a evening. Example. I used to have 10 drinks or so on a binge. Now a binge is 5 drinks. A drink for me being 1.5 oz of whiskey with water or a 4 oz glass of wine. I find it very amusing that it is common now for me to get up the next day after what I would have classified as a binge and have a bottle of wine in the fridge with one glass out of it and at least half remaining of a small bottle of whiskey. That is a 375ml bottle for me or aprox 10 - 12 ounces. If you get a chanceplease let me know some of the things you have noticed.
Lena, keep going and it all happens naturally. The greatest relief is how my mind doesn't stress about it like it used to. I absolutely do not miss the horrible hangovers, guilt and shame trying to remember. All gone!!! For over 2 months now!. Haliluyah!!!!( sorry about spelling). :D 8-)

Oh yeah, I find it really hard not to exersize in the time between taking my nal and having a drink because it is one of the things I really enjoy doing. Especialy if I have been busy during the day, get home then take my nal and want to get things done. Like the treadmill etc. I have no problem at all taking my nal one hour before drinking. It is just the exersizing part.

Sorry for my excessive posting but I have to ask before I forget. Will we get a chat room for when a few of us are online and want to talk in real time? I'd love that. There was something else I was going to ask but of course forgot. Will have to post later. PS I never posted this much on MWO. Ha

Yup, I'm working on that. I'm trying to find a solution that is both affordable and integrates well with this forum software. This forum software (phpbb) is one of the more popular choices so I'm sure I'll find something soon. I'll work on it this weekend.

Unfortunately, I was unable to get an appointment today with my PCP to ask for a prescription of Nal. I'll have to wait until Monday.

In the mean time, I'm continuing to work my way through Dr. Eskapa's book. This really is an amazing book and I hope everyone here has a copy and has read it or is reading it.

This book does such a great job and rationalizing and putting into words the mechanisms that drive our addiction to alcohol. As I read though these scientific explanations, which Dr. Eskapa does a great job and putting into laymen terms, of what causes addiction to alcohol, I am finding that these explanations describe my own personal experience with alcohol. It really is amazing.
