Hi All

I have read some places where benzos might affect the success of Nal . After drinking each night the morning after I take .25 Xanax but I don't take Xanax for the rest of the day ,and I take my Nal around 9pm so the Xanax would be out of my system by then . Any views . All the best ,J.

While using nal, I continued to take diazepam as prescribed. I didn't notice anything amiss.

Where did you read that nal interacts with benzodiazepenes? My understanding has always been that they don't interact directly.

just checked some previous discussions re benzos thanks Chris , it seem as Dr Eskapa suggested they may hamper progress , but it seems as though many in the past are cured and were taking benzos at the same time . So I wont worry about it too much and keep taking the nal . It only a small dose in the morning g and I don't drink until late at night so I guess it wouldn't affect me anyway . J.

Dr Eskapa posted that they interact but never really gave any explanation as to how and why. To this day I think they hampered my progress but I was using large amounts of Diazepam.. not therapeutic doses. There was a posted from a few yeaer back called Bob who took Diazepam the whole way to success so I'm not sure. I've personally waited nearly 5 weeks to rid my system totally of benzos as I don't want to take that chance this time.

No, they don't interact. Articles which mention both are either stating that they don't interact or are discussing both separately in a wider "addiction" context.

Benzos work on GABA receptors. That does suggest some interesting possibilities for those whose addiction is thought to work via GABA receptors, but that wouldn't cause interaction with naltrexone. They're two different drugs.

I suppose they might hamper psychological progress in that we're still turning to drugs to deal with our lives. Some of us swap one addiction for another. One can get "relaxed and mellow" from either drug, even though their actions are different.

I remember reading that info and I took from it that it was thought benzos interfere with the decision making process, making it more difficult to exert control when extinction takes place. In other words you are a bit spaced and thus defences are down, so might not be able to make a clear decision to stop and not carry on drinking through the nal.

That's my interpretation.
