Yes. That is what it is like for me too.

Trust me Melissa. It doesn't last long enough to be 'fun'. It is more like an edge has been smoothed just a tad, for a moment, rather than anything thrilling or enjoyable. In other words, I would not take Nal just for that feeling.

Just finished Week 10 of my program.

OH MY GOODNESS!! IT IS WORKING!!!

While week 8 & 9 were a little on the heavy side, I put that down to an extinction burst. Then in week ten, the desire to drink just dissipated. Two days were easy-peasy AF days, even when I was staying overnight with a friend and he was enjoying some fine whisky over ice. On four days I had one (if that) glass of wine that was hard to finish. And one one day I had some low-strength beers (it was hot!!) and then some gorgeous wine when out with friends. Funnily enough, four of the six of us having dinner are wine quaffers, but we only drank 2 bottles between all six. A-friggin-mazing.

I am off to my doctor this week for a new perscription and to fill her in on how things are going. I think she will be impressed and may start suggesting TSM to some of her other patients.

Cheers all! Hope it is going well for you too.

Are you calling "cured," or do you want to wait to make sure?

Nope, not calling cured yet. Don't know if I ever will. I don't dare think I can not have Nal in the house/purse.

That said, if I can go substantially AF and only drink (with Nal) on social occasions when out with friends, which is less than 1/7, then I may use the 'C' word.

In other news, my partner has also cut down his drinking. :P :P :P I think that he is now understanding that he doesn't HAVE to drink that next glass of wine if he doesn't want to. This is excellent for us!

Brilliant :) :)

So glad that it's working so well. Out of interest, is your partner taking Nal as well?

No, he is not on Nal. And he still drinks quite a lot. But he is not drinking as much or for as long each day. And because I am not drinking much, the dynamic between us is not getting as twisted as it sometimes as in the past. Although he drinks a lot, he never gets aggro, just a bit moody if anything.

Week 11 done and dusted.

My numbers were a bit higher than the previous week but all in all I am happy with my progress. So is my doctor. I saw her for the first time since starting TSM and showed her my record and graph. Apparently she has delved deeper into researching TSM and will be presenting a paper on it for her continuing education program (most GPs in Australia do ongoing family medicine training). She is very happy and impressed by my progress.

I think I have finally worked out the pot thing. Nal reduces the effects of pot and has a similar result in reducing my attraction to it.

According to 'the book', I should almost be 'cured' as I am coming up to 3 months. But I don't think I am. This doesn't bother me as I know that sooner or later, especially later when I am working full-time as a teacher, I will have much less desire to drink 'on a school night'. I could easily see myself going AF Mon - Thurs and perhaps enjoying a fine wine on the weekend, while using Nal.

Which reminds me. I went out to dinner last week with friends and we ordered some very delicious wine. It was truely yummy and I was able to enjoy it as a taste delight, rather than a opoid-boost. This was a really nice experience which shows me I can enjoy a lovely wine (on Nal) but not have any desire to over-indulge.

All in all, a good week. And my partner is still reducing his intake too and starting to mention that he might go on the program.

I have just counted up all the drinks I didn't drink over the last 11 weeks. Over 300 of them. That equals around 40 bottles of wine ($400) and 24000 calories. Take away the $100 I've spent on Nal and I am $300 up and 4lbs lighter. Bloody brilliant!

Glad to hear that it's all going well for you...and that it's having such positive effects on your partner.

I'm at that AF Mon to Thurs point and I'm loving it. It's good that it's within reach for you too.

Some people say that alcohol with Nal now tastes disgusting, but I haven't found that to be the case. Like you, I can now enjoy a glass or two with a meal without any desire for more. I was at a party at the weekend when I had 2 glasses of Prosecco, enjoyed them both, and then naturally switched to water. Happy days :)

Good luck with week 12.
