It's been a while since I last posted on here so I feel the need to give an update. I am still drinking a lot but I am taking days off still yet and I've started exercising (last week to be exact). I feel so bad when I drink the hangovers hurt so much more now so I still think I am doing it just out of habit . I'm 7 months in tomorrow.

Sounds like you're seeing improvement.

From reading these threads here, I gather that people who still enjoy drinking while on nal may sometimes need a kick to knock themselves out of old habits. Now that you're no longer flat-out addicted, maybe things like nasty hangovers will apply a corrective as well.

Nice to meet you, BTW. I'm new.

This is my first week of actually doing Sinclair. I read a lot about it before the pills arrived, but in practical terms I'm still a newbie. I'm going mostly by what I've gleaned from scouring the forums for others' stories.

If you're drinking out of habit, maybe start a new habit? It's easier to switch habits than to drop one and have nothing in its place.

Well it's been a while since I've posted so I thought I would give an update. Since the last time I posted I've slowed down even more. The last time I drank a lot of whiskey was New Years Eve. I drank a half of half gallon of jeiger. I had a few shots of Wild Turkey 101 since then but nothing serious. I have drank some beer on my weekends too (probably 12 or more a night on weekends, I am big guy 300lbs). For the most part I have been spending my weekdays sober. My appetite for alcohol has seriously decreased. I need to pick up some new habits though. I spend way to much time in front the computer trying to make a buck. I need to exercise. I feel sorta of empty because I haven't really replaced the Buzz with anything. Anymore its like I don't want alcohol but I want something feeling. Hope that makes since to some of you. Look forward to hearing from you guys

Smoot,

Makes perfect sense to me. Other than the hard ****, I can ditto a lot of your last post. Not as many AF days yet as I would like. Reduction due to TSM is good, just not great yet.

I still fall into one of the following scenarios.

Scenario 1:
Day off work at home with family. This is now the easiest way for me to go AF. I know this sounds crazy and not possible or realistic, but I truly believe, if I could never leave my home again, I think I could go AF for the rest of my life. Weird, because a year ago, a day off at home, i would pop a beer mid afternoon, continue with beers until bedtime, supplementing with hidden shots of vodka in the storage/utility room.

Scenario 2:
Typical weekday at work. I still have the mental debate, most days, about my stinking drive home. Now however, most of these drives, where I NEED to have a beer after work, I can stop at 2 or 4, even 6, which I deem as a minor success.

Scenario 3:
Same as scenario 2, however, somehow, 1 out of about 5 of these events, I do somehow let the beast win, and continue drinking beer at home hitting double digits. These days I deem as a minor failure.

Scenario 4:
Major Failure. This is when I have a "scheduled" drinking event. Birthday party, trivia night, beer and chicken dance, etc. etc. where I go way into the double digits. It still doesn't take a whole lot to twist my arm when I am with the Drinking Buddies, to continue past the 2 or 4 or 6, and proceed to gobble em down with the boys.

So in summary, still drinking too much, but drinking way less. And ditto the 300lbs. Working on that. Totally understand the empty feeling thing also.

Keep up the good work and keep us posted.

Good for you. It sounds like the method is working -- more slowly than average, but who cares? It often takes longer when you start at a higher consumption level, and the thing that matters is that it's working.

Is that your own blog in your signature? It sounds like you.

Exercise is great. It fills time, releases endorphins, and gives us something to make progress on. I've been exercising (now that I'm able!), and I recommend it highly.

Making a buck is also good -- fills the time at least, and can make those bucks if we're doing it right. What are you doing to make a buck?

Sounds like you're doing really well. Spending your weekdays sober is a major achievement, so hoorah for you :D

As to how to fill the time...well I guess it's a question of what types of things you like to do. As melissa says the most obvious is exercise, especially as you'll get the endorphin hit. It doesn't have to be a hard core gym workout...a good long walk works wonders. Painting, music, bowling, cinema, rock climbing, sky-diving, puzzles, book reading, meeting up with friends, charity work, salsa dancing(!).....the world's your lobster. How amazing that you're in a position to be free to choose.

I feel like I go through those same scenarios Christopher….but at least we are improving our situations now. If you would've told me I would've slowed down like this a year ago I 'd say you was crazy so we are getting there ...

Well I thought I better get on here and give an update it has been a while since I've wrote last. Tomorrow will make 1 year I've been doing the Sinclair Method. I've got to say my condition continues to improve. I am only drinking twice at the most three times a week. I would say I am cured but the problem is when I do drink I drink to get drunk. I still down more than the normal chump. Probably a half liter on a good night. I no longer drink through the day either so I can really see big changes. Now I just got to get my weight issue under control. When I relapsed I gained close to 80lbs due to inactivity and binge eating when I was drunk.
