Dr Ameison method same as The Sinclair method different medication.

Recent advances in brain imaging have increased knowledge of the function of the
pleasure and reward systems and suggested that Addiction interfers with the balance
of the neurotransmitters, Dopamine,Glutamate and Gamma-Aminobtyric Acid (GABA )
What Baclofen does is stimulate the Gaba-b resepters and you see the release of
Dopamine and Glutamate is slowed so reward system is normalised

Naltrexone blocks Dopamine (reward system )
Baclofen slows and normalise (reward system )

Just thought I would throw this info out there for those struggling with naltrexone sideffects
Baclofen maybe more user friendly with the same out come so they say. any one tried it or know someone that had success with this.

Hi there

If you look at 'my way out ' site there is a lot of folks there who have great experience with baclofen , some with side effects others without much . I hope Tsm or baclofen will work for you . All the best . J.

It's not the same method. Baclofen can extinguish craving, at least in some people. It's not targeted. One takes it every day. The dosage is increased until "indifference" (as they call it) is reached. Some people have had to take some truly scary levels of baclofen, although others have reached indifference on a lower dose.

One takes baclofen daily forever. It's not taken when one drinks; it's taken each day in order to maintain indifference. Some people have a maintenance dose lower than the dose initially required to reach indifference, but others have found that that doesn't work permanently.

Some people have combined the two.

I have nothing against the baclofen approach. Many report that it works well. I'm simply pointing out that it's not the same -- it's not targeted and it doesn't lead to extinction.

Hi Melissa
I have looked over dr ameison method more closely again your write it is very much
different. It just seemed so much the same at a quick read into it. I was looking for
a back up plan if nal gave me bad side effects. Talk about jumping the gun I haven't
even tried nal yet and I am already looking for plain B.

Some people use both together.

When will your nal arrive?

I spent several weeks taking baclofen earlier this year before I started TSM. Besides the extreme side effects, my experience was that it completely dulled my ability to feel pleasure or emotion of any kind. Naltrexone has a similar effect on the ability to feel pleasure, but I only take naltrexone when I drink, and it doesn't turn me into an emotionless robot like baclofen did. As melissa points out, only through TSM can you achieve extinction and, potentially, eventual freedom from both alcohol and naltrexone. Baclofen is taken every day forever. Naltrexone is only for as long as you need it, and only when you do choose to drink.

Having said all of that, if baclofen works for you, that's fantastic. Regardless of which medication gets you there, reducing your drinking to a "healthy" level is what's important.

Do they mean "indifference" about everything? I thought they meant indifferent to alcohol.

I'd worry about the side effects of such a high dose of baclofen, if it were me. Some people have gone up to 300mg/day before reaching indifference. That's such an individual thing, though . . . some tolerate it very well.

My bigger concern,my foremost reason for choosing TSM over baclofen, was the possibility of a supply interrupting. What happens if one can't get baclofen? Not only are the alcohol cravings back, they're accompanied by a baclofen medwash. I figured I didn't need that. :) So I went with TSM, which (I hope) provides a better solution as well as not leaving me dependent upon the drug.

Again, though, I have nothing against the baclofen method. Research is still in early days, but it looks promising. It could be a real short-term help to people who are having trouble even getting started with TSM, or to people whose drinking is so wildly out of control that they might die if they don't cut down at once.

Thanks Ives and Milissa
taking that much meds all the time and no extinction seems pointless and short lived.
To answer your question I will have to make an appointment next week to a clinic that
offers TSM its 2 to 3 hour drive one way but getting a prescription will be easy. and
they will contacted my family doctor so he will give me further prescriptions and check ups.
I just have been looking at different meds I found one called Gabapantin also.
I was given a link to read last week some time about a some one in the similar situation as
I am and I finally had a chance to sit down and read through it all. Lets just say I was
shaken up by this enough so I am not sure I even want to go through with it. This is
why I have been looking for plan B meds. I still have an interest just got a good scare
now im on my heels.

Hmm. What shook you up? I'm mostly just being nosy, but maybe we can help or at least talk you through it.

Hi milissa
your not being nosy . I just didnt get into it because its a old TSM post and I don't know if
I should or should not comment on it.
I watched someone in a very similar situation and same plan and same goal. It was like
watching a scary movie and your just hanging on to your chair. He started out what looked
to be perfect plan and just had every thing in place and after that every post just seem to go
downhill .It was like I was watch it unfold and could stop it just like a scary movie. He actually
believed he could drink with no nal near the end of it. In other words we share one major
thing in common he has a alcoholic mind and so do I. We see what we want to see not what
we really need to see . Some times we forget what we are like and a good read like that
is a good reminder.

Ps you might have to read between the lines but my point is clear.
