Cured? I think if i called myself cured, Id go have a beer. Im not cavalier enough to think it couldn't happen again. I feel like i have won the lottery, calling myself cured and not being vigilant, seems to me to risk it all for double the payout. Im perfectly happy where I am.

Maybe Im in remission. I like that a lot better. Still feels slighty premature though.

Oh, and the side effects are definitely a deterrent. I have to schedule a drink. 2 hours for the nal, must be at home or at least have a ride lined up, must not have anything important the next day, etc. Oh, and if anyone is around I may have some explaining to do if i have some really bad side effects.

Michael: Well, you will probably feel worse on nal. Cut down on alcohol as quick as you can.

Is it possible the side-effects are in fact alcohol withdrawal and nothing to do with nal? You've had 2 tablets and have gone from 30ish units to zero just like that...???

Thomas: Yeah, that's why my goals changed from "normal social drinker" to abstinence. That and the hallucinations.

Micheal: Definitely not withdrawal. I have quit before and not noticed anything.

Here is my first experience:

viewtopic.php?f=7&t=3564

Second pill i threw up so hard the next day was spent gagging on my swollen uvula (dangly bit in back of your throat).

Well, Im sure there are other factors too. I am very good at recognizing my own patterns, and estimating my capabilities. My biggest thing was to replace, initially, alcohol calories with sugar calories. Ate lots of ice cream my first two weeks, pretty much tapered that off now. Others have the problem of what to do with themselves as all they know are other alcoholics.

But yeah, between the tripping, gagging, fried brain, thinking im going to die and ice cream, just like that. ;)

Id do it again for the no cravings, but i dont want to do it again.

I checked it out. I am going to follow the instructions in the book and the advice seen here by starting off with a quarter of a pill then building up to the full dose. I will also continue drinking as normal and take headache medecine as required!

sideeffect2 knows what's happening there, but for the sake of others, I'll mention that I was drinking 30-35 per week and having withdrawal without realizing it. It seemed like I was just getting a cold. Drinking fixed it, and I joked to myself that the alcohol was killing germs. It wasn't until later that I learned that alcohol withdrawal can present as "a touch of the flu."

Obviously that is not what's going on with sideeffect2. :) I mention it in case anyone else is wondering if withdrawal can happen at that level of drinking. It can; it just won't be as dramatic.

I might have a glass of wine this weekend. I was tempted today, i bought a good bottle of wine for the wife. I just cant afford to be off my game tomorrow.

I have to say though, if its not good wine, Im totaly not interested. How things have changed...

So you do still have the concept of "good wine," then? It doesn't all taste bad?

To be honest, Im not sure. I seemed to think i was missing out. On nal, would i enjoy it? Probably not. Maybe thats a trigger of mine that needs extinguishing.

We'll see. Its wouldnt be the first time i made plans to drink on the weekend and didn't follow through.

I'd be interested to hear about that.

I'm really trying to understand why some people still enjoy drinking on nal, even talking about enjoying a night out with friends. How? How can that be? And I thought your experience was more like mine -- "this just plain stinks now that I use nal" -- so I was intrigued to hear that you still referred to something as good wine.

Vision keeps improving. Im actually starting to get irritated about it. Wish i had figured this out years ago.

Melissa: I think, for you and i, the buzz was the primary point of the drink. If I liked the taste of beer it was merely a learned association from the buzz. Buzz gone, beer tastes like ass again. I think some may enjoy the taste. That, or something else...

Edit: wow, three weeks with no alcohol.

25mg at 4pm. 25mg at 4:30. Glass of good wine at 5:30 after good steak dinner.

You know, I was a bit buzzed from the nal. Although almost 4 weeks and no alcohol, Im not sure i know what a proper buzz is anymore.

I enjoyed the first glass of wine. We'll see if i finish the second.
