Ok, so was feeling pretty good about going cold turkey as i havent had a drink since oct 9th. Today is tuesday the 15th. I had planned to make myself take a nal and a drink on sunday, but i dont think im going to last. Had light cravings yesterday, stronger today.

I really cant afford the time to take a nal, wait an hour, trip face, recover and then have a drink and feel like crap tomorrow. I really dont want to drink without the nal as i think it will put me on an intermittent reward extinction schedule (much longer).

Anyone have any tips?

I need to also order the book and read it, so forgive me if its covered.

is it the same buzz you get without nal?

what do you mean by trip face?

Yes, 25mg did not entirely inhibit the alcohol buzz. It was maybe inhibited 50-60% but it was still there.

Sorry, trip face is slang for hallucinate.

I didnt hallucinate last night. After my second dose i drank a strong beer, that brought me up to around 3-4 units of al. Second dose wiped out the buzz and i got no buzz from the beer. I went to bed. Drank plenty of water before.

3am I wake up and vomit so hard that my throat swells up and i spend the day gagging on my swollen uvula (dangly bit in the back of your throat).

3-4 units is not enough to get me to throw up and was an amount i drank routinely with no problems.

I might give this one more go, but i think im at the point that if im willing to put myself through these side effects, i might just have the strength to just go cold turkey.

If it's the side effects causing the problem have you tried taking a small dose of nal firstly on a non-drinking day, then increasing slightly with or without alcohol? Many report the SEs reduce in a fairly shortish time this way.

I wonder if a similar but different drug would be easier on your system? Naltrexone is the most common, but nalfemene is a strong second choice, and I think there are a couple of others.

Well, i have made my peace with the lot i was dealt.

No alcohol, very few cravings, two pills. I carry a pill around if i really want a drink, but i havent wanted to pay the price. Pror times i had quit, it was a daily struggle.

That sounds great, actually. Abstinence with a backup plan is about as good as anyone could ask for. Congratulations on solving your problem.
