Hi All,
I had my first naltrexone yesterday. Had one bottle of white wine. Didn't feel like having more. That's a big step for me because at the end of a bottle I'm usually going out buying another just for another glass. A bit nauseous. Vivid nightmare, but otherwise just felt a little funny. I am guardedly optimistic. I've been wanting this for so long I just don't want to psych myself out. I think keeping this log will truly help. Looking forward to sticking to one bottle of white wine tonight, if that; that's better than usual! Here's to hoping.
Thanks :)

Hi blyn,

For some reason a bunch of new "unanswered posts" are showing up today, even though they didn't show yesterday and have been kicking around without an answer for quite a while now. If you feel ignored, that's probably why -- it just wasn't featured well enough.

How's it going now?

Thank you so much for replying :) I first started at 50mg, then went to 25mg because the side effects were so strong. Then I took off a week and a half from the naltrexone. I probably shouldn't have as I completely binged on the weekend. I felt very strangely affected by it. Clammy, lightheaded, anxious; are all these side effects normal and if so how long does it take for them to pass? Or, do they pass? I started again last night at 50mg. Again, here's to hoping.

I felt quite anxious on my first nal + al, but I attributed it to the bizarre and frustrating experience of drinking with no buzz. Clammy and lightheaded, not so much (although I do feel a bit clammy from alcohol withdrawal, so that could be masking a lesser effect from naltrexone).

Everything you list is a normal side effect, but they must have been pretty strong to lead you to ditch nal entirely. Maybe sticking at 25mg for a while is a good idea? Did you have the powerful side effects then?

A few people have had to start at 12.5 because they were so sensitive.

Hi Blyn,
I too hadn't seen this post, so I think there muist have been some sort of glitch as I always go to new posts when I log on.

I didn't have the anxiety when I first started (but I've read posts on here from people who did) but I did feel light headed, spacey, tired and very nauseous. I dropped down to 12.5mgs and slowly increased from there. I also took an over the counter anti sickness pill which really helped. The advice is always to start at 25mgs for a few days as 50mgs is quite strong for a lot of people. Even at 12.5mgs I noticed a difference in my reaction to alcohol. For me, the side effects have totally gone and I think that's true for most people. There are a few however who continue to have side effects for a long time.

Don't worry that you stopped and started again. Chalk it up to experince and start afresh. Good luck.

Ruth.

Wow, Ruth, your progress is impressive. Just out of curiosity, why are there no numbers for weeks 8 and 9?

Blyn, are you hangin' in there?

Melissa,
Weeks 8 and 9 I was on holiday and let TSM slip a bit. I didn't keep track of my numbers and had a few days when I didn't wait the full hour. I still drank significantly less than on previous holidays, but I didn't have the numbers to note down so put a ? instead. Glad to see you're having a positive start. Ruth.

Thank you both so much for your advice. I am taking it and going to go down to 25mg to really give this the shot I want to. The side effects aren't as strong when I take the 25mg dosage. I will begin tracking my progress, starting afresh. Thanks again.
Blyn
