I took 25mg of naltrexone the other day 1hr before drinking. I am working up to taking the full 50mg after several more drinking sessions. The only words that I can use to describe how I felt was the naltrexone took away the firestorm that always ignites in my head. I still got drunk but I was not constantly obsessing about the next drink. When I woke up I had consumed 5 Beers and 2 glasses of wine. I still have the last beer from my 6 pack in the fridge. 4 days prior to this I consumed 17 beers when not taking naltrexone before drinking.

How do you describe the feeling that naltrexone gives you while drinking? Is it similiar?

It suppresses the rush of pleasurable feelings that you get from the first couple of drinks. All the negative effects of alcohol remain - the loss of motor control, impaired judgment, memory loss, adverse effects on the digestive system and liver, etc. So, you'll still be able to get "drunk" in the sense that you're going to start acting stupid, thinking more slowly, making bad decisions, and you'll still have to deal with all the consequences the next day...but without the endorphin reward that you were seeking when you started that first drink. Remove the reward, and the behavior that seeks that reward will slowly fade away. That's The Sinclair Method.

It sounds like you are experiencing the "honeymoon" period. If you had 17 drinks in one day, and after starting TSM, had only 7 drinks, that's great. But don't be disappointed if you find yourself drinking a lot more, just as much as you did before, after you've been doing TSM for awhile. This is a long and drawn-out process for most people.

Good luck, and welcome to the forum.
