I'm a mom of 3, alcoholic since I was a teen. I was sober with AA for several years, but relapsed after refusing to concede never drinking again. It took a few years to cause problems again, but oh, the problems sure came right back eventually. I've done rehab 2x, once in a low cost, gritty 28-day hospital setting, and then 40 days in a swanky malibu rehab. Neither changed my life. In a fit of desperation, I googled looking for a cure for alcoholism, and read about the Sinclair Method. I brought it up to my psych, and he prescribed Naltrexone 50/mg. so far, I'm on day 2, and it's like night and day. I don't feel like drinking, and even when I force myself (to allow for extinction to occur), I can't drink more than two.

Honestly, I knew AA had the monopoly on alcohol treatments (my own family is 30+ years sober in AA), but it's just a shame more people haven't tried TSM. There's just too much stigma surrounding any treatment that condones drinking here in the US. Luckily, my doc was open minded about it, and I have hope back once again that I thought was long gone...

Welcome Rachaelina!

Glay you found TSM. Already feeling like you do on day two is awsome! It's also great you have a doctor that prescribed Nal and, I suppose, understands TSM. Just be sure to always follow the rule Nal + 1hr before drinking. Also, it's ok if you take the Nal and decide not to drink or if you decide not to drink altogether (then you don't need to take the Nal). But don't use willpower or white knuckle it. If you feel like drinking the follow the rule and drink.

Also read lots of posts here and get the book (it explains a ton of stuff).

Be safe!

Rich

Thanks. I'm so excited... I ordered the book but haven't received it yet. I have absorbed a lot of info from the Internet, though (like the studies, and a few forums). It just sounds too good to be true, you know? If this works long term, it'll be a miracle!

Welcome Rachelina!

We're all hoping this is the solution and I'm very hopeful that it will work for me. I've had lots of experience with AA and this protocol is much more realistic, and has already yielded positive results.

There will be ups and downs, and that is normal, just stay with it and keep us posted.
