Well just to keep everyone updated I've had major progress since last time I wrote. I have had 4 alcohol free days this week and I had three alcohol free days the week before. My urge to drink is really starting to disappear fast. Me taking off 4 days from drinking is a miracle. Back in January I would've had to go to rehab or jail to accomplish that. What's funny is the girl friend sees me drinking she ask "did you take your medicine?" I am convinced recovery is finally taking hold and I am regaining control of my life again.

This is brilliant news.

I do think Naltrexone removes the physical addiction, leaving only the habit to break. Really pleased to here you are getting in these AF days. Don't ever drink without Nal, no matter what. Also I found it is fine to also take nal and change your mind, ie not drink. Ok not strict protocol but didn't do me any harm.

Thanks UkBlonde,
That is one of the things that I do is take Nal then I don't feel like drinking but because it is protocol I end up drinking. I see you regained control couple years ago. That is awesome. Thanks for your encouraging words..I am enjoying an AF day today. :)

Smootie, that's amazing progress and thank you for reporting in.

So essentially you've been doing TSM about 5 months, and now you're having 3-4 AF days a week? It seems to be really working for you. Is it much effort on the AF days?

I'm only two months in and it's still a bit of a wild ride, though overall units are dropping and I am encouraged. No AF days yet. I haven't really thought about trying, but it's about time, perhaps.

Keep up the good work! It's great to hear progress like this.

Writeratlarge,
When I was at two months I was still drinking about a fifth per day and everyday almost. It was weird first few days of nal and i only drank a few beers then I went back to drinking my usual fifth or more day. About the fourth month I started to see changes in my drinking again. So keep it up you will get there! The AF days are starting to come a lot easier than they use too. To me it's like I am getting bored of it and I don't feel like drinking. So it's really not that hard at all.

Also writer I had a 5 year sober period so I know what it's like to relapse after everyone thinks you got it beat. In AA they tell us we will never have it beat but with The Sinclair Method I actually think that I can beat the power that alcohol has over me. Someone on here said every time you take nal the voice of "drink more" gets smaller, I believe that. I drank last night, the only difference is I remember going to bed and I didn't fall or make an ass out of myself.

Well just to keep updating, its 5 months and 5 days in today! This week so far (it's Thursday) I've had 3 AF days. I really can't remember the last time I downed a fifth. What's funny is there was a few times I went to bed knowing I didn't pound down a fifth but I would wake up and the bottle was almost gone. I thought I just built up a big tolerance because I really wasn't watching it. When I started paying attention I knew I wasn't drinking that much. Come to find out the girlfriend's son and friends where stealing off me. They were used to me getting blacked out drunk and thought I wouldn't realize it. I finally started catching them because when I was done drinking I would measure my bottle!! 5 months ago there wouldn't be a bottle to measure! So I am improving week by week.

Smootie, you are an inspiration - thanks for posting!

In the past my step-son and/or his friends used to chug outa my bottles and I was so gone I didn't notice it until they replaced water with a whole bottle - that was the last time and it was really stupid of them b/c I wouldn't have noticed otherwise.

I'm happy to hear that you stayed with this for 5 months now and the voice is getting small - I am holding onto that hope for me! Although I'm drinking considerably less, I'm still at a place where I do want to drink during certain times in the evening - I can't wait to be where you are but like you, I think it is going to take time, unfortunately I'm not one that is cured in a matter of weeks, guess I'm hard-headed or something.

Keep posting and have a great weekend!
Marianne.

Smootie and mblibre, I'm in this thing for the long hall with you. 7 months for me. Still a weekly battle for the AF days, but still a BETTER place. Not the BEST place yet. It will happen for us if we stick together.

Thanks Mblibre and Christopher,
I feel the cure is near but I am definitely not cured yet. I still probably drink way more than the average person.Your right though Christopher it takes sticking together to make it work and sharing our experience with Nal.
