Wow, Babs...what progress!

I've been away for a week and so much seems to have changed for you...you really have been "doing the work". It seems as though you've come alive emotionally and have discovered a lot about your feelings, behaviours, actions and reactions and what makes you tick. I think that's fantastic.

I've always been interested in human psychology and have spent the last few years reading books, going to counselling and attending seminars to try to really understand who I am, why I do what I do, and what makes me respond in the ways that I respond. It can be exhausting and scarey but ultimately it's been very freeing. I finally know myself and feel the lightest I have in years.

I'm so glad that you're making such progress. When we change it can be unsettling for our partners and family. They might not be expecting or wanting change and are quite happy with things as they are, thank you very much! You may find resistance, especially if the change is fast. However, I'm sure your husband wants what's best for you and in the long run things will all work out for the good.

Although I accept that there's a genetic component to drinking and a chemical craving that makes it hard or impossible not to drink, for me I think there's also an emotional part to it. Once we get to grips with the emotional side Nal can work it's magic even more effectively.

Keep up the good work.

Ruth.

Hi Babs,

2 glasses of wine would be a huge victory for me, so I'm impressed. And thank you for doing your part in encouraging more participation on this board.

It's essential that we support each other and especially those new and suffering.

Have a great week!

Hi Babs,

Just checking in. You haven't post on this thread for a little while. Everything ok?

Cindy

My house is clean now, and uncluttered for the first time in years. I am actually throwing out tons of JUNK that has been sitting around waiting for me to "get the energy" to do something with it, or to it, or to give it away. Now in the trash it goes.

I make mistakes. Big deal. Life goes on and we make do. Plan B takes effect. If there is no Plan B, I make one up!! My husband is my husband and he has to put up with me and I have to put up with him - we both have good and not so good traits. We enjoy the good, and suffer the not so good.

Doing the work is not just a 'handle' this time and I can see how important it is to get a plan and work it inch by inch - that turns into foot by foot and then leaps and bounds happen  Tonight will be AF as we are going to Mass at 4:30. A wonderful priest we know is celebrating his 25 anniversary as a priest by saying a Traditional Latin Mass at the Cathedral where he is Parish Priest. One day at a time.

This is all so great, Babs. Delighted to hear things are going well, you're keeping busy, and the wine is in check. I hope to get going on some of those home projects this week as well...and I'm feeling much better so the possibility is good.

Take care!
