I do not have insurance, so I would not like to risk seeing doctors who will not prescribe. Ordering online makes me nervous, because I worry the pill may be inauthentic among other issues. I'd love to get a legit prescription and even medical advice, but I'm certain there are no Sinclair Method doctors in my area. Is it possible to consult a doctor through email or over the phone? I live in California. (My guess is too good to be true.)

I've done a lot of reading about this and am so excited abut it, but feel I've hit a road block! I'm white knuckling right now, hate AA, and do not necessarily trust myself to stay sober. Thanks in advance!

Hi,

I don't have any knowledge of remote treatment/RX, but this was posted in this forum - sorry I don't know how to link back.

I talked with the doc and I'll just post his info. He has a few patients and really likes the stuff for creating alcohol disinterest and eventual loss of dependence.

Dr Adam Sherman. Oxnard, CA His number is 805-487-7000

I was very fortunate to find my Dr. in my little remote area; I have just started TSM after 8 years of trying everything else and continually relapsing. I am hopeful for the first time in years. I used to live In CA; it might be worth a road trip to find the right Dr.!

Good luck to you!

There used to be a doctor who would treat over the phone - in Chicago??? but that was quite a while ago. Any other old timers remember? I'll see if I can find those old posts and let you know Annemarie.

Anne,
My opinion is that the pills that come from legitimate online pharmacies are exact matches to what is available in the U.S. The problem, as you may have heard, is that once you get a prescription, it shows up on your "record," which will potentially make it more difficult or expensive to get health insurance in the future (you may be forever pegged an "alcoholic"). Regarding medical advice, I'm not sure what exactly a doctor can offer in regard to TSM. You take a pill, you wait, you drink. The dosage of Nal that you'd be taking is really minor in terms of the liver (nothing like what prolonged alcohol use does).

Still, this is your decision to make. That's just my two cents.

Thank you for your thoughts! I did decide to bite the bullet and order 60 pills online which i have not yet received (not late yet or anything ). I have done a lot of reading, including all the criticism I could find, and I am very optimistic. I would love to have this endorsed by a qualified doctor, but this forum is very helpful. Because this is a lifetime commitment, I am a bit worried that online pharmacies will no longer be available at some point. My plan is to try it, then just start stocking up!

My drinking has varied over the years-from a nightly drinker, to an all day-all night drinker with occasional drying out periods-rehab-3 months sobriety, and for the past couple of years, periods of sobriety-a week or two at a time (the longest was five months!) to all day-all night binges lasting a week or less at a time. They usually begin with wine and end with mass quantities of vodka and sometimes extracts (that part is embarrassing!). These are always accompanied by blackouts and withdrawal. These periods are NO FUN for my man.

I am looking forward to changing this pattern for good. I would LOVE to be a social drinker!!!! Side note-my man is very patient and supportive but is definitely afraid of this method. I have to make it work. He doesn't deserve what I put him through, as I'm sure you can all relate!

AnneMarie,

I hope you find sucess with Nal. My drinking seems to parallel yours, that is to say, pretty heavy at times. I'm hopeful, though, and since being on Nal the past 2 1/2 weeks, it has not gotten worse and I'm feeling less compulsive, have even started doing some positive things, like exercising the past 3 days.

My BF of 5 years bailed at my most recent relapse; I don't blame him really. "He didn't sign up for this." No, he never signed up for anything that required genuine commitment.
