My old name here was Norma1 and I was here for a long time a while back but had a lot of upheaval with family issues and I just got real lazy about taking nal - would take it today and not tomorrow type thing. I did so well on nal before that Im slalpping myself for being such an idiot. I got real lazy about coming here too- my elderly mother moved in with me so I just couldnt find time and then would get lazy and tired at night and just pour the wine. Happy days untill it started to get out of hand again.

I had gone such a long time where Hubby never mentioned my drinking habits, because they were fine and its back to him saying things like, "drinking again tonight hon"? and my seventeen year old daughter said last friday, "i dont suppose you could use a bit of self control tonight"? it was said in a jokey way but I think she was still getting her point across- so here I go again.

I see alot of the people I used to know arent posting- I hope its beacues alcohol is no longer an issue in their lives.

I was going to try and locate my old thread but I think Ill leave it and start anew.

Thanks for reading and I hope to get to know folks here a bit better over the coming weeks
xx

Norma,
I've noticed, too, that the farther away we get from out mistakes, the less real they seem. I can hardly conjure emotion up about not drinking, and that's just after six months. I can't imagine the people that abstain for years and STILL get up and tell their drinking story as if it just happened yesterday.

Anyway, you should theoretically do just as well as before. I know the teenager saying things is a big motivator for a lot of people. (It's happened to me, too. I felt really stupid.).

Thanks for poping in Barry. Yeah I hope I do well. Allready after just taking it three times in a row each time I drank its seems to be. Went to a frends house last night armed with a bottle of wine. She had five glasses , I had two and left the third. I think nal works as long as we let it work, then again thats the nature of the beast.Ive started marathon training albeit on a small scale with a local club so that should keep me on the straight and narrow too. it may also help get rid of that stubborn belly fat that two much wine has left in its wake

Actually my name wasnt Norma here the last time it was Mario1. Strange reading back on my posts last year. All the family sickness and dramas were doing my head in and I felt responsible for everyone, truth was that I actually was. Ive since 'inherited' my mother on a full time basis but its ok as we built on an apparment to the side of our house and that helps. Schizophrenic brother is now in a full time group home type place and only needs minimum help from me---- though he visits 7 days a week lol---so things work themselves out their own way regardless of how much we worry. Why can I never learn that simple lesson, quit worrying. Next drama that unfolds and unfold one will, I will begin the process of turning myself inside out in the small hours of the monring again. Cest la Vie I guess

xx Nors

Welcome back, Norma! I've just returned as well.

Your training for a marathon has really inspired me. I trust all will go well with your family and with the reintroduction of Nal. :)

All the best to you and yours,

Xanthippe

Hi Norma this is Xavier and I have a few questions for you if you don't mind
I was wondering how was your first time around with Nal?
how much did you drink and how often?
for how long did you take Nal and did you do it as prescribed?
did it work for you and how long?
and finally how and when did you stop Nal and started drinking again with out it? did you come back full blown
thank you so much I hope you can help take care and congrats in your progress

Yes Norma. The teenagers. Another reason for Nal. Not wanting my 3 teens to end up like pops.

Hi Mario! I remember you from my last time here too. But hey we're here now and that's all that counts. And X is another re-tread...but doesn't this time around seem different? The board doesn't seem as active somehow. I was feeling a bit low that so many of the old-timers are gone but then I thought - what am I saying!!!!! It's wonderful that they are GONE!!! That means they have moved on into sober-land, or control-land and that's where we going too...

Great to have you here: be calm and take your nal ;)

Ouch.

This was a big motivator for me, too. My kid is around the same age and my wife mentioned him being really turned off/disgusted one night after seeing me get ripped with some family friends. Knowing he saw me that way was a pretty big kick in the ass.

Good thoughts to you!

Hi Norma,

My 19-yr-old son is home for a couple of weeks; he has lived with his Dad full time since he was 15 and will be a sophomore in college this fall. So his visit coincides with my taking the plunge into TSM; I'm just in my 2nd week. He hasn't read the book but I explained it to him and he went with me to one of my Dr. appts. Still, it's very humbling to be around him 'taking my cure.' I was sober from before he was born up till he was 10 and then was a hard-working, high-functioning career professional and single mom, in and out of sobriety. He's seen me do some really awful things, like driving him home from an amusement park dangerously intoxicated, and I actually had a seizure while going through acute withdrawal after quitting Xanex cold turkey - he was in the car and at 14 managed to safely steer the car to the side of the road. So admitting once again that I need help and trying something different is hard, but I had no choice but to be honest with him.

And I want to be here for him, and eventually get my drinking permanently to safe levels, with more AF days than drinking. That's the goal anyway; right now it feels a long ways off.

I'm glad to hear that Nal worked for you before and I look forward to reading about your progress.

Cheers!
