Hey guys,
As a notorious blackout-binge drinker I have had a no spirits (especially brown spirits) rule that I have stuck to fairly well during my active drinking years. But beer and cider are my drinks of choice and I still drink these to excess. Blackouts, obnoxious personality change etc..
Has anyone who also sticks mainly to these drinks - "softer" stuff - had any noticeable results in their BEHAVIOUR whilst drinking on NAL and TSM? I know my absolute goal is to reach lower drinking levels and not binge at all, and also to lose the urge to drink, but so far I have noticed I am at least more controlled when I do drink.
Any similar experiences or advice?

Yes definitely.

I was a cider drinker, who wierdly enough went onto alcopops(these are alcoholic 'soft drinks' in the UK http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alcopop usually around 4-6% abv and fruit flavoured) which is what I was drinking when I started TSM. I'd banned myself from vodka some years ago when I realised the speed at which I could put units from that into my body was just too dangerous. With TSM drinking the alcopops, I experienced an immediate drop in consumption right from the start and can say the times when I've drunk too much have usually been when drinking wine or stronger beers in the months since.

So do not worry, if anything I think you'll experience better results than if you drank anything stronger.

Thanks UKblonde,
I've read a lot of your posts since coming on board with TSM, you seem to have a great deal of insight and experience so I thank you for responding to my question. We've had the alchopop insurgence here in Australia too and as they are so much easier to drink in large quantities than beer I've had my fair share of evenings on these also.
I am beginning to wonder if the blocking of endorphins in my brain is what is stopping me from blacking out, like as though I blackout when I overdose on endorphins. It has just always baffled me. Like I said I am doing this to ultimately gain control of my drinking down to maybe 4-5 drinks max twice a month, and lose the obsession, but if I can figure out some of the reasons why my brain does what it does when I drink then that'd be a bonus.
I really look forward to hearing from you throughout this. I am really excited and hopeful that this can work for me the way it has for you!

Hope you didn't think I was making fun of you by posting the link. When I've posted re alcopops members from other countries have been confused.

I put my lack of black out down to the drop in units I experienced. I've simply never drank 30 units in one session since being on TSM.

By the way you may have to excuse my straight-to-the-point posting style, it can come across as abrupt but it's just me without the flouncy bits!

Hahaha, no not at all UKblonde! I didn't get that impression in the slightest. In-fact as a newbie I was delighted to get a response and I merely mentioned the alchopop thing more as a segue way to me being from Australia than anything else, so that we can talk in similar volumes etc. Some of the guys from the states say that they drank a 5th or a gallon or whatever and so out comes the conversion calculator to see exactly what they're talking about!
Again I really appreciate you getting back to me and I hope to continue to hear from you as it seems our drinking experiences before (and hopefully whilst on) Naltrexone may be similar.
Thanks again!!
