I'm from Europe. To be honest: I don't fully understand how you protocol your drinking habits. How much exactly is one unit (16 or 20 grams of ethanol)?

I've taken 100 mg Naltrexone today and I've consumed four beers (= 80g ethanol).

But I feel OK, was running 2 hours, swimming 1 hour and did my job (boring IT stuff ;)),

In the UK units are worked out as follows;

Strength of drink (%) x volume in mls/1000

Can different between countries so 100mls 40% vodka = 4 units

Why the 100mg?

Thanks for your reply. My Pdoc suggested using 100mg NTX. He believes that sometimes this dose is necessary.

He did even check the NTX concentration in my blood.

This might sound like a really stupid question: But "should" I take NTX or Nalmefene and then drink 2 beers after work?

Even if I'm strong enough to resist? TSM can only work if I really do drink. AFAIK I'm physically healthy.

The person in the drug store was always very nice, but after she saw that I take Revia, she isn't anymore.

I hate it that even some psychiatrists get "angry" when they have to treat alcoholics who want to get abstinent.

Most of the medical profession rely on treating symptoms rather then curing any illness to make a living.

I wouldnt even be going to any psychiatrists if I were you, I got a genetic screening done showing I had several alcoholism genes. What would a psychiatrist do about that? lol. Nothing.

It doesn't cost my any money to visit my Pdoc (just short 15-20 minute visits).

I don't have a lot of money and he treats patients for free some days of the month.

He is a very nice man, I know him since many years and to be honest - I believe I might already be dead without his support.

I've also worked some time for him.

He told me once that we in fact know very very little about the brain.

ATM we don't have the technology to exactly identify which neurotransmitter system is the problem in alcoholics. Alcohol works on so many.

But I believe if it saves a human live than combining safe drugs like NTX with NAC and baclofen is fine. If you don't know exactly which system you have to attack, then attack many. A lot of studies show synergistic effects between anti-craving drugs like NTX, ondansetrone, baclofen, memantine, NAC and some anti-glutamergic drug which name I forgot.

I'm doing OK. ;)

I drink 4 beers now instead of 6 and I drink slowlier.

I can't know if it's the naltrexone, the baclofen or the acetylcysteine, probably synergism.

I'm doing fine. :)

Unluckily there is this big fight within the whole community:

The Prof. Ameisen / baclofen guys think that they are right and no one else.

The Prof. Sinclair / TSM / NTX people think they have found "the holy grail".

Then again at least some persons from AA think that no medication whatsoever is the only right way.

This makes me really sad. :(

Not my approach, I used a variety of methods and techniques with TSM in order to get to where I am now. Doesn't work for everyone just as anyone of the other methods. I have shared with some AAers, they've not told me to get lost, one did try and encourage me to a meeting but they can hardly dispute how well I am, nor my recovery.
