I write this post to give an update on my status on NAL. I know that when i started using it in december of 2011 I was in a bad spot because of drinking and the problems it was causing and how it was making my world smaller and smaller because of things or people that were in the process of walking away. When I started to use NAL i was most interested in how it worked, if it worked and would it work for me. I used to be a much harder drinking weekend alcoholic. I would start slowley on wednesday night, go more on thursday and by Friday be ready to cut loose. Now I have had two beers in the last 5 days and do not feel the need to get wasted and have a blow out. Last weekend i had 11 drinks total between Friday and Sat night. Sat night I had 5 beers over like 5 hours and at the end of the night was sober and stopped drinking at 10 pm and was fine by 11:30. That would never have happened two years ago. The more I take NAL and drink the less I really want to get drunk...

I feel that it really does extinguish the craving for alcohol and the habit of alcohol. You sit at the table with your family have two glasses of wine and then think about the third and then then think what's the point of that?? whereas before you would go into the kitchen and swig out of the wine glass so no one knew you just had a third glass...

Anyhow, its now Friday morning and I am not hungover or tired,,,, so do not want to jinx it but just keep doing it and hope for the best.

good luck to you who are also using NAL to get rid of your alter ego, your Mr. Hyde, your slim shady... :)

DD can I ask you, at what point did you really start to notice Nal working for you as in the desire to have that third drink went away, I'm starting into month 7 and Im still drinking as much if not more then before, still craving and having that internal battle, I know patience is necessary but that "desire" to not keep drinking has not kicked in yet, it gives me hope when I hear that it didn't start to really work its magic until much later.

Cheers

Wintyr.

@wintyr,

How is your tracking been going? Tracking is one thing that helps me see results/improvements, even if they are Baby Steps.

Also, posting/sharing my small/big failures and successes with this group helps a ton.

Wintry, sorry I did not get back to you sooner but i was out of the office for a few weeks. For me the change has been slow, I still drink three nights a week on average (last nite we had a work happy hour and I had four drinks was done by 7pm went home watched a movie with my daughter and did not feel the need to then have 3 more beers which I would have snuck out of my outdoor fridge and I was in a mood last night and had not had a drink for 3 days so before taking NAL that would have been a recipe for disaster). But even now after taking NAL for almost 1.5 years I am seeing a change in my attitude toward alcohol. I do not really get that initial rush off the first drink like I did before nor the rush like I did from drink 2-6 until I just went through the wall and over the cliff so to speak.... But now I am drinking more socially like I am at a party and I have a few to loosen up since I am an introverted person which people take as aloof, standoffish, or something like that but I am more shy and so have a few drinks makes me more talkative. But then I am not feeling the desire to have those extra many drinks. so not sure if this is answering your question but I did see a pretty quick reaction when I first started taking it where the effects of alcohol were really limited by the receptors in my brain not being triggered like they had been by alcohol. For me at least I am 48 years old and starting drinking at the age of 17 and it just went on and on and down and down so I think that it will take many years to reverse the programming that I did to my brain and I think tthe deprogramming will take a long time.

Hope this helps, alcohol is a very powerful drug with no redeeming qualities and to counter such a powerful drug Nal has been effective.

Thanks DD I appreciate your response, we sound the same I think this is going to be a long journey for me also, I am now into month 8, I do find it marginally easier to not drink on certain nights but am still very very far away from where i long to be (normal!!) it gets so old being the only female (in my situation anyway) who can keep up with the men, very classy!! How I long to be like all my friends who can take or leave it:( Anyway you give me hope as I am an impatient person and I really had hoped I would be further along in my progress, I know its not a magic pill but as the others say that train has not slowed anywhere enough for me to jump off! Christopher I am logging my progress but i didn't start until month 4 and I recently went overseas and did not log my progress so its a little all over the place but I will keep noting as i agree with you that's the only way to see progress when it doesn't seem like there's any.

Regards

Wintyr
