Hi all, so glad I found this site. I am on day three and loving it! I am a two bottle of wine a day drinker and have been drinking since I was 14- now 44- i don't think I have been more than two days sober ever, and that includes four pregnancies (not proud of that). I asked my dr. for naltraxone and he said sure-no problem and gave me a script for 50mg and said take once a day. so I researched and found this site. took my first 1/2 pill at 4 and drank 1 1/2 glass of wine!!!! next night was a neighbor's party and for the first time i left after maybe 5 drinks, only had 1 pre drink and DID NOT have a drink when i got home. WoW. So Just wanted to say hi and hope to get a lot of friends and support of these forums. Kathy

Welcome, Kathy and congrats for getting started on TSM! I do think it's a miracle pill - as long as you follow the golden rule: always take a nal 1 hour before drinking, ALWAYS, forever. There is a TON of good info on this site. Read up, track your drinks, and GOOD LUCK!

Basically in the USA, a 5% domestic beer is 1 unit.

When calculating hard liquor or wine, you need to measure how much is in the glass or mixer.

Keeping the diary is definitely a good idea, it will become very important tracking over the long haul, especially when you have a bad week and can look back at the severaly previous weeks, and realize you are generally drinking less, even with the bad week.

Keep us update and welcome to the group. :D

Welcome from CT. I'm new here too and look forward to hearing your progress. As a wine drinker, when I hear bottle, I always wonder what size bottle. For me a bottle is 1.75 liters. I can finish most of it in a night, with a couple of glasses left over. Way too much I know, which is why I'm here. Now I know that a unit of wine is 5 ounces, and that 1.75 liters is 59 ounces. I measured 5 oz of wine and use a glass to fit it. I find that the very act of planning to drink, by taking Nal, and tracking my units is giving me more control. Last night I had 7 units.

It's early yet, as last night was only my 4th Nal, but it's fair to say that I'm not one who responded immediately to it, like some here. I hope it will work for me, but in the meantime I'm putting together a Plan B. I started seeing a therapist who knows what I'm doing and my husband knows too. I'm considering going to a women's meeting. Wishing you great success!

hi rebecca . I drink two 750ml bottles every night. i started on tues. so I am on day 5 and I am down to 1 bottle and really noticing bad habits. last night i poured my teddy wine- that last glass you bring to bed- and then realized i didn't really need it so i put it back in the bottle. I also noticed I gulp my wine, so today I am going to try seltzer water mixed in and see if that helps. Good luck to you!

Congratulations on cutting your units in half! Before Nal, I drank most of a 1.5 liter bottle, anywhere between 7-9 units. After a week on Nal, I'm down to 3-4, so I'm seeing progress. I had a little trouble figuring out my units at first but have it nailed down now. One night on Nal I drank my usual 7 units, which made me realize I had to change other habits, like the teddy wine, haha. Carefully measure a 5 oz glass, sip more slowly, drink water in between, record each glass. Also, I've noticed I get buzzed around glass 3-4. Before I would just plow past that point. Now I feel the effects of it, and decide to call it a night. Wishing you continued success!

The bedtime teddy drink is terrible. I have been terribly guilty of the following also:

1 for the road or,
3 beers left in fridge, I better drink them tonight before bedtime, what good are only 3 beers tomorrow or,
1 last shot before bedtime.

All recipes to sleep worse and feel worse the next day. I have done this hundreds of times pre-Nal. Without Nal, the devil pretty much has it's way with me and talks me into it. With Nal, those night caps have disappeared along with my weekday mini-binges and after dinner drinking.

Also, I hope mixing in the seltzer water helps.
