I'm 90 days in and am not sure if it is working or not. I take the pill at 4pm and have a glass of wine at 5pm. I drink probably 7-8 glasses of wine until I go to bed at 10. I don't slur or act stupid, but I do enjoy the wine. I drink only slightly less than before. My wife can tell if I forget to take the Nal and drink, it has only happened twice. At what point do I just get tired of drinking wine?

Hi Hoges. Read around this site a bit and you'll see that everyone responds somewhat differently. The key is to keep following the rule, never drink without the nal (I speak from experience!), and when you're ready, do a few things differently - try for an alcohol-free (AF) day, drink a glass of water between glasses of wine, change an alcohol habit (for example, don't open that second bottle). Some folks have to put in a little extra effort beyond the golden rule. Good luck!

Hoges,

From what I read 90 days is basically from the study they did, (veterans correct me if I am wrong here). That study referred to 35 units a week alcoholics. I was closing in on triple that. I have a feeling I am looking at over 90 days.

I know you stated 7-8 glasses a week which would be 49-56 units a week. But that could be double if your glass is the size of my neighbor ladies wine glasses.

Pre Nal I was drinking 9-10 units worth of vodka cocktail on the way home, and many nights having 6-10 beers after dinner, until I was good and tired, good and drunk, or both. On Nal, I still have my bad days, weekends typically, but the drinking alone on the way home is shrinking, and the after dinner boozing alone is really really shrinking. I definitely could still easily gobble down 18 units on any given weeknight while taking my Nal, but my Nal is helping me say stop it man. I have read more than once on here that Nal can merely be a small "tool", to help you say, whoa, time to stop at 3, or 6, or 9. Someday, I personally am expecting this "tool" to rid me of this evil habit of drinking by myself.

Keep us updated.

Christopher

Hi,

I am aloso about 90 days within TSM (started Jan 16). So far am also not really sure it's working. I think it sort of is as don't get the really happy feeling when drinking, but still keep trying to. Also have been making the mistake to have drinks in the day without taking Nal before. You see, I was prescribed it by a psychiatrist and he insists that if i take it every day abt. the same time it should stay in the system and keep working....

Desparately won't to stop the day-time drinking anyway.

I also like wine and on a normal evening before Nal, but even now often will go through a bottle. On weekends if I have some in a day can go through two bottles...

But I am not giving up. I just have to accept that only the pill will not suffice for me and I'll have to make more effort!

Best of luck

An hour and half or two hours prior to drinking seems to work better for me.
