Hi Lorraine and all,

Weekend was OK-ish. I managed to stay off the alcohol the whole day Saturday and have some only 1 hour after taking my pill. And only had 50 ml v-ka and 350 ml wine which is 5.5 UK units.
But Sunay unfortunately caved in in the afternoon. Started cleaning the house - did bath with no drinking, started the kitchen and then pored mysel a glass of 5.5% wine. But as just started it a friend called and we want for a long walk and chat. Unfortunately when got home abt 3:30 and carried on with the cooking the wine was there, so i haded and the had another...Anyway had to stop as was supposed to pickup ex and kids from station. So took the Nal and then went to pick them up. When got back had some more wine - normal this time.

Yes Christopher and Berry,
I will continue the fight; i just hope the psychiatrist here keeps prescribing the Naltrexone...But if not have to buy off internet.

Berry, my psychiatrist says that the 50 ml in the evening should last for the next day too. But as i am the first patient he's given naltrexone for use in TSM am not really sure how expert his advise is. I really really have to stop the day time drinking anyway, so will try hard....I also have scept the Nal on a few days because of side effects and not being able to afford to have them (either because of ex over or things i absolutely had to be fine for the next day, like my son's BD party. But now will take it religiously every day!

Here is my updated diary:

the stuff in [] in each row corresponds to the text in the same [] in the next rows. So the text in firts [] is the week (number and dates), text in second [] the units UK etc. Also note the firrst time period 17.1.13-20.1.13 is only four days. I did this as wanted to count my week Mo to Su

[Week] [units UK][units US][Notes]
[1 (17.1.13-20.1.13)] [65.5] [36.9] [25 ml, but didn’t take it on 18.1.13]

Hi Alice

Sounds like you did pretty well last weekend ... well done .. hope you still managing ok? I think you're right ... you NEED to take your Nal before ... each day .. even if it means you take it in the morning or afternoon or whenever..

I don't usually drink til evening ... but can be tempted daytime occasionally... have always got pills in my bag in case

Great you managed to the gym an stuff ... I do a bit of jogging (not v far .. but I DO feel the benefit) and like step and pilates classes ... so I've treated mysself to 3 months membership at the health club .. I used to work for a really nice health club ... and miss the posh pool and lovely clean changing rooms. so I decided with the money I'm saving from not buying so much wine .. I CAN afford it. I can go while my sons' at school after work - and I have one day off a week so no excuses!!

Really hoping to drop a couple of pounds now I'm not having so many booze calories .. mind you .. haven't noticed much loss yet .. an have had some sugar cravings  hope this will pass!!

Let us know how u getting on?? Lorraine

Hi Lorraine and all,

Lorraine, good for you to treat yourself!

I also spent loads on alcohol (I know as i keep records of all expenses, bills etc) and feel really bad and guilty, especially as we are finding it hard financially.

I've done OK-ish this week, but no AF days and units more like 7-8 than 3-4...

I never used to drink in the day except on special occasions and even than it will be lieke one drink. But in the last year or so because of the situation with my relationship started doing it more and more often. It sort of goes I feel really really down and depressed and want to feel happier and playful for the kids and here comes wine to the rescue. I realise in the long run it probably makes my depression worse, but want the temporary relief...

I am seeing the psychiatrist prescribing me the Nal Wed and am very nervous abt. it. I think will have to be slightly dishonest re my units. Anyway he didn't give me much advice on how to use Nal in TSM. So basically for the first few weeks i was not really doing it properly: not waiting an hour, drinking in the day without the pill, skipping days..I hope i can now stick a proper TSM and get somewhere. The most difficult one for me will be the day time drinking.

I hope to get to the gym tomorrow for a body balance class. My boy is sleeping at his dad's and my daughter can come with me and stay in the cafe or something. Or there might even be a class for her, i have to check ( we are with Virgin Active and they have stuff for kids)

Lorraine, hope you continue to do well! And everyone else as well!

Alice

Hi Alice

Good to hear how you are doing .. . I can totally empathise with the "have a drink to relax and be a more fun Mum"... I definitely used this as my excuse in the evenings .. I used to have to have 2 glasses of wine to get through my son's homework but its just my impatience and weakness.. Nal is helping

It sounds like you're doing better which is great ... ok still some wine sneaking in during the day ... did you take your Nal before hand that day??

Well done on getting to gym again ... yes, Virgin active good .. I used to be with David Lloyd and they were great for kids activities so I could do a class or gym ... but so bl**dy expensive!! You really need to be going lots to get your moneysworth (o there I go sounding like a tight Scot again!) but great your daughter can go with you too

Hope you're having a good weekend ... I am maybe trying for AF tonight ... not sure yet ... Nalover not been so bad last day or two (maybe was wrong time of month... sorry any gents reading!)

Take care Alice ... lets see those units going down this week ....good luck with psychiatrist on Wed

by the way ... do you get any sugar cravings at all???

Lorraine

Hi Lorraine,

Did you do the AF?

Yes alcohol in the day both Sat and Su and I didn't take the Nal before. I only have one tablet a day. I have to get some extra soon. Money is tight, but it's a worthly cause i guess. I'll try again next weekend and see if can be stronger and tougher with myself. Part of it is really caving in too easily for bad habbits. But I was feling down this morning and started sort of crying and my daughter asked what's wrong. So I sort of said (my ex wanted us to have lunch together yest. and then came over the house and stayed for dnner too. ): 'well Dad doesn't live with us yet comes over and stays and then goes to his house and has his piece and I don't know if that's right... And we are short of money with what he gives us and my sallary and i have to use savings... And I am just emotionally exhausted to deal with stuff.' Something like that. And she said. 'Mum, you know you are better than that.'

So am going to write this down and keep reminding myself. And should be better than that and beat alcohol.

All the best!

Alice
