Oney -

Be sure to check out the book excerpts and other info in the "What is The Sinclair Method" area. Good stuff in there.

I sure will guys but I want to do my homework...I need to really read about what this method is all about so I can post with my head screwed on and know what I am talking about.I trust Marbella implicitly and know she would not support any method without firstly researching it and believing it can work!

I think it is wonderful what you are doing here and I do think that there are many methods for coping with our addictions....and I cannot understand how people can knock this unless they try it.
So go for it guys, you are doing sterling work and i applaud you!

I shall be back if you don't mind!

love

Oney!

Aaw, Thanks Oney! That was lovely to see your name here!

The method would not be advised for you as you have managed to be abstinate for some time now on your own (Big Kudos to you!!) but even so, I think you will find the book very very interesting, it took away the stigma for me that there was something fundamentally wrong with ME- like I was inferior to other people, and had a terrible weakness to my personality that others did not have.

I now realise that is not true AT ALL, in fact I have a very good learning system, much better than around 90% of the population!

So a lot of the shame I have felt over the years has been taken away, and for that alone the book is priceless, and I think everyone who has ever felt that doubt, guilt and shame should grab a copy.

I second what Oney says. I was following your discussion at MWO with great interest, now I'll be spending even MORE time following discussions but I'll quit complaining (for now). ;)

I'm a successful moderate alcohol user and very thankful to MWO for helping me achieve that goal. My problem rarely was overindulgence but I had fallen into a habit of drinking every day and used MWO to help me break that habit. The reason I have been following The Sinclair Method so closely is that I come from a long line of drinkers and several close family members may benefit greatly if this method proves successful.

I cannot tell you how grateful I am that you are taking the time to post your results in an honest and forthright manner. Plus, you are all very entertaining. Potato I hope you will continue to come to chat at MWO (others are welcome too.) And Lena don't be a stranger down at Mods.

BTW, I'm cyclefan because I follow the sport of professional cycling, not a cyclist at all. In real life I'm an old, fat woman.

cyclefan,

You said you're a successful moderator. Since you're still drinking, you might find that following The Sinclair Method makes you an even more successful moderator. If you're having to fight any day-to-day craving, it might help relieve that. Just a thought.

Hi N101CS thanks so much for that tip. Actually I don't have day to day cravings. Before I quit drinking every day I did have a craving at the same time every day, but now that I've quit drinking every day I don't think of it much. If I do have a small nudge, I just get a glass of water and it goes away. I can't say that it will be like that forever, so that is another reason I'm following this with so much interest.

cyclefan -- Thanks so much for dropping in. It is quite touching and inspiring to have you and our other MWO friends stop by to wish us well. Please keep coming back.

One thing we haven't discussed much is the Sinclair Method as a prophylactic (i.e. preventative) approach to alcohol addiction. Eskapa discusses this in his book. There's little doubt predisposition to alcohol addiction has a genetic component. It's nice to know that naltrexone (and hopefully soon nalmefene) can be used at the first signs of problem drinking (preoccupation, drinking when we don't really want to, work, relational or legal consequences, etc.) to head off a full-blown addiction.

For myself, I don't know of close blood relatives with alcoholism. I drank along with an alcoholic spouse for years until I got "hard-wired for alcohol". I used to think that was what was meant by co-dependency: developing my own habit by drinking along with my alcoholic!! The alcohol addiction gene may "help", others can become addicted too, given enough learning (in the neurological sense).

Come back often and be vigilant about your family members.

Best -- Lena
