Hi all! I found this forum and TSM back in 2009. I was reseaching a way to help control my binge drinking. Soon after I found this site I got pregnant. I quit drinking 2 weeks before I got pregnant and didn't drink again until my son was a month old. I thought I would be able to somehow control my drinking after taking a year off. I slowly started to drink more and more. I didn't want to be "that" mom. I thought about trying TSM, but I ended up pregnant again! I quit drinking until the baby was born. Once again thought I could contol my drinking. I couldn't. I am a 30 yr old female weekend binge drinker. On fridays I drink 12 plus light beers and sometimes sat too. When I start drinking I find it dificult to stop. I went to my dr and got a rx for nal. Last night and tonight I took 12.5g I did notice a difference. The happy buzz never happened and I didn't feel a need to drink all night. I really feel like this will work for me. I have read just about everyones weekly threads on this site and have followed many people through to their cure. I am thankful for the people who have posted on this site to give me he courage to try this method. I will try to update now and again (mostly for the people researching tsm). I hope eveyone is happy and well!:-)

Ava, I'm glad that you're doing TSM. I'm your age and began binge drinking in college. I've only been on TSM for three weeks but I've noticed a substantial difference in my drinking. I don't feel the compulsion to get really drunk like I used to. It's a very "freeing" feeling. Tonight, I went out to the bars with several friends and I came home before the rest of them. I drank much less than usual. I hope you keep going with TSM - it's a huge blessing for people that drink like we do.

By the way, your smart to start with 12.5mg. I should have done the same.

Ava, welcome and good for you, having the courage to swim upstream a bit, in trying TSM. Sounds like you've been doing a lot of reading here so you know the ropes and know what you might expect. I think you're very wise to address this at age 30 and not let your problem get worse. It's great we have the TSM option now!

Is your dr. that wrote the prescription a knowledgeable advocate of TSM, or did you get the RX for "craving"? I'm just curious.

Thank you for your replies. I had some anxiety about taking Nal, so I figured 12.5mg wouldn't be a big deal. It wasn't. I have not experienced any side effects. I will up my dose to 25mg when I feel 12.5mg is no longer working. I went to my dr and told him I wanted nal for cravings. I was told to take it everyday. I didn't want to argue with him about TSM.

Exactly. I figure we can better educate doctors by becoming dazzling examples of "Cured"! :)

Welcome Ava. It's great that you started at the beginning of the problem rather than several years into it. I'm very optimistic for you that you'll be successful.

Best of luck!

Started TSM Aug 2012. Had some success but over time the Nal SEs were so awful that stopped taking Nal. Managed a 30 day (Sept 2012) and 46 day (Feb/Mar 2013) AF period which also contributed to getting drinking under control.

Hello all! It has been just over a week since I started TSM. I began taking 12.5mg and increased that to 25mg after not experincing any side effects. I have not kept track of au, but I can tell you that my drinking has been cut in half. I still enjoy the buzz of alcohol, but the need to continue all night is gone. I am very pleased so far. Hope all is well with everyone!

This whole experience has been amazing so far. I still enjoy drinking, but don't feel that urge to keep going all night. If I had been able to always control my drinking like I am able to now, I never would have thought I had a problem. I feel like I'm back in the good ol' days when alcohol was just fun! I can have a few, or decide I want a few more. I wish I had started TSM years ago! I hope all is well! :D

I feel the exact same way. If I had started TSM years ago I never would've developed a serious problem and I would've embarrassed myself much less frequently. Regardless, we're both really really lucky to have found this treatment at a young age. Think about it - there have been alcoholics for as long as there has been alcohol (10,000+ years) and we're amongst the first to actually have a legitimate medical treatment.

Another awesome weekend! On Saturday we had some friends over to play Cards Against Humanity (a hilarious card game). I had a few drinks and stayed up playing the game for a few hours without drinking! I had a slight buzz and just kinda forgot to get another drink! TSM has changed my life! I am no longer affraid of alcohol or where I'm headed, in regards to alcohol. TSM has made me a 'normal' drinker! It has been over a month since starting this method. I truly feel if I take 25mg, 1 hour prior to drinking, I will never have to worry about alcohol again. I am so thankful to everyone who has posted on this forum! Without them, I never would have tried TSM!:D
