I have just completed a discussion with someone interested in the Sinclair Method. Just as WIP from MWO, they asked about how people were doing after many years of Nal. I had no answer.

Does anyone have any history, even anecdotal, of long term Naltrenone used in the Sinclair Method? Though the book is new, the method and drug have been around for some time. Surely someone has journaled their adventure. Ideally, there would be those that are still actively practicing the method. Where are they?

This is a life changing event and I find it nearly impossible to believe that no one has recorded the process in detail. I know I will be able to do so at some point in the future.

I did a little googling but have not run across anything definitive. Out of the 1000's that have been documented, surely someone out there has left a paper trail.

RV, you have seemed to gone far beyond the rest of us as a participant and investigater. Do you know anyone who has started the Sinclair method outside of a year? Two? Five?

Do you know the value that would be?

If we are the first down the yellow brick road, that is scary or exhillarating or both!

Hmmm, not really. But if you go here: http://www.mentalhelp.net/poc/view_doc. ... 1132&cn=14

and search for the comment by "Janie" you'll see something, albeit anonymous and unsubstantiated.

Some of the comments on that page irritated me tremendously! I was about to reply, but realised it would take hours and I don't have the time right now.

I did see that on the page Dr. Eskapa had asked for any long term Sinclarians to email him- I wonder if he was ever able to locate any?

It does seem strange that there are not more testimonials advocating the method- or perhaps because the majority of successful cases are Finnish and there it is a common treatment and they are unaware it is not so available or well-known in other parts of the world- or do they forget their alcoholic days quickly and not feel the need to bring it to their present thoughts? Or has it not worked for anybody long term?

I find the latter hard to believe.

The Finnish clinical trial Sinclair reported on indicated that patients were averaging no more than 9 drinks per week after THREE years! That's pretty good. However, if patients started drinking without naltrexone they lost their gains and within months (3 to 6) are right back to their original heavy drinking levels. This is also a problem in developing countries where patients cannot afford the medication - so they initially gain and then sadly looseout because of a lack of funds.

Dr. Eskapa,

The thing we (sorry guys, I hope I am talking for more than just me here) find strange is that there are not more people; or better said, not that there are 'not more', but it seems there are just not any old Sinclarists, shouting from the rooftops who have been free from their addiction by using the SM long term.

It is not that any of us here have any doubt that it works long term, but it would help our cause while trying to push the method if we could give testimonials of long term successes.

If I were to become free from my addiction finally, I would want to share the method- indeed would feel it my duty as a human-being to share- I find it strange that nobody who has been cured, or managed to live normally again, find it no big deal, and are not advertising it, or trying to spread the word?

Marbella, You are talking for me too, I totally agree. Would the Dr. be so kind as to give us more concrete study follow ups?
Thank you so much.

Well guys,
Welcome to Gilligans Island. We are on our own for whatever that means. There may be others on this island, but they have dug in deep.

We can do this. We have Dr. Eskapa at the helm and N101CS as his first mate.

We will make it.

Hi oceanaocean,
Are you with us now. Last I knew, you have some real obstacles with family members. If you are doing this method, great. If not, I hope all works well. We will always be here waiting.

No  , but I am following your progress and I have a few friends that are also trying the Sinclair Method. By now you read my post in MWO so you know the continuing story. I will be excited to see how you all do, Keep posting!

The fact that there are no long-term recovered alcoholics coming forward is somewhat troubling to me as well. The internet is an international tool, and one would expect that if tens of thousands of people from Finland and other nations were cured of addiction using The Sinclair Method, one would find all kinds of stories on YouTube, MWO, and via many other sites. Perhaps Drs. Sinclair and Eskapa could encourage some former addicts to jump on board here, to encourage those of us who are new to the Method?
