Got the book yesterday and had a quick flick through it. I basically already knew most of the information as I've been following TSM for a few years and know have read a lot on how you get addicted and stuff. I did confirm a few other things that I already sort of knew like the genetics and having addiction run in the family. I an an absolute textbook case for this.

A very high percent of my relatives have had problems with alcohol abuse and gambling. In fact being from a working class Irish back ground (I know its a bit of a stigma) I'd say 80%+ of everyone I know either are heavy drinkers. Its just what you do.

When I was a kid I can remember being fascinated by drinking. An early memory I have is buying a large bottle of fizzy apple juice and pretending it was a big bottle cider like the ones people drank on street corners where I lived. Along with drugs, I always knew I'd have problems with booze.

What I was surprised about with the book is the amount of research that has been done and the amount of conclusive evidence by people at the top of their field. It makes you wonder if there is indeed a force out there trying to keep this hush hush because of the money they might lose.

You have to understand that "12 step" rehab is BIG business. In patient rehab costs thousands, if not tens of thousands, of dollars.

There is incredible financial incentive to ignore TSM and in fact oppose it.
