[Re posting here after advice from a member [thx kindly heavy fuel ]

First post, so hello and hope everyone is as good as can be expected. Quick background and no doubt possibly a common one to many ; rehab twice/ detox 5 times in twelve years / AA / not AA / clean sporadically etc etc .
Began taking 50 gm naltrexone 6 months ago (1 hour before) , Initial weeks were quite good with a reduction in units and at times a "non drinking urge" and even "no i will have a coffee " . However , at present my intake has risen back up and "flattened out" at 110/120 UK units per week with very few AF days [ i do not even do my log anymore because my input has been static for weeks] . This is only slightly lower than before the naltrexone .
Thus , two things are really worrying me :
1) Was the initial progress simply a placebo effect? . You know how it works.... " oh a new treatment ...cure? " - Off you go with the enthusiasm of a kid in a sweet factory ! It always works .... for a while at least.
2) Normally a vodka drinker but have drank beer (promise to wife) since starting naltrexone 6 months ago . Recently however, it now appears 10% abv beer is on the menu!..... which is also worrying.
Any input from members of spikes , plateaus or similiar experiences to mine after 6 months+ would be greatly appreciated . I suppose i have the "jitters" and i know some people have taken 12 months+ before success . That said, i would be suprised if their consumption was 100 + UK units at 6 months . Am i wrong ? - Thank you , good luck and best wishes to you all .

hi joetee just want say i hope you are doing well. i am on week ten and was getting worried as well as you. the beging was so strange i went from eight beers a night to four beers a night. im now back to the original eirght and i feel at some times i can drink more. so i emailed roy escap about my concerns and i cant believe he resonded to me. roy escap is the author of the book the cure for alcholism. he worked i think with david sinclair. anyway he said if you see a spike it is normal and for some people it takes alot longer to be cured.so hang in there and if you want the email that he sent me let me know and i will send you his reply to my email.keep me posted with your progress

Is your Nal from our DR or are you ordering online?

Wishing you very best!

All of this is completely normal. When first starting TSM many people see an initial drop off, and this i actually a sign you will respond to and be successful with TSM. There then can be a period when you do see a return to normal drinking, as a binge drinker-type that meant a series of spikes for me. Those who drink every day may return to their old daily amounts. With patience and perseverance most come out of this scary bit eventually and regain control over alcohol.

Naltrexone Started 20th April 2011

Cravings eliminated Sept 2011
Now fully in control, alcohol no longer bothers me. Chose to go AF from 22nd July 2013.
TSM set me free

Are you working with a doctor? If so you may want to to talk to him/her about adjusting the dosage (just one option). Though I understand a higher dose can be dangerous for some, so I would only recommend this is if you're working with a doctor. I had better luck when my dosage was adjusted to 100mg. I also take it 1.5 - 2 hrs before. For me, significant change started happening in the 9 - 12 month range. Everyone's experience is different.
