Hi HG

I'm so pleased for you!! Good on you for hanging in there all this time. I wish I could say TSM worked for me after 17 months, but my life recently spiralled out of control (drunken binges in car, another DUI, hubby kicked me out for 10 days) and I am now trying baclofen. Only on 50mg so far & am trying not to drink now I am back home. I still have a couple of months worth of nal left so have mostly been taking those, but it seems to make no difference to my drinking whatsoever now.

Looking forward to seeing you on the Regained Control list.

Cheers
Sticky

Hi Sticky - Thanks for the support. Yeah, it was a long long road for me, but I finally seem to be free. The first week without my usual preferred drink (wine) was brutal, but after that it got much easier. It's going on 4 weeks now and last night I had only hot tea. It wasn't even difficult. So, it looks like I'm on my way. If TSM hadn't worked I was going to go to Baclofen for sure. I wish you the very best with that program. It has worked for many many people, and I'm hopeful it will work for you.

Keep in touch. You are such a strong figure on this board that you would be missed if we never heard from you again.

Half a glass, great stuff to hear from you. It's amazing that you've been able to switch your preferred drink like that - I commend you on all your hard work!!!!

Hello All - Two days no alcohol. Prior to that I was drinking nearly every night one to two margaritas with minimal alcohol in them (about one shot of Tequila split between the two drinks). I did have a couple nights a week AF each week too.

For those of you who don't know me or my story, my big hang up on TSM was doing AF days. Well, now that I am doing that TSM is coming along quite nicely. I have no cravings. I don't think about alcohol, and it seems I am on my way to Cured. Happy Days! It has now been 4 weeks since I gave up my preferred drink of wine. In that 4 weeks I've had little of nothing to drink. Although the first week was hairy (irritability, cravings, etc.) since then it has been a breeze.

I will be declaring Cured really soon. Thanks for all of your support.

Good news! Seems that mix of Nal + some will power can be the key for some people.

Thanks for your kind words, Half. Yes I tend to over think EVERYTHING in my life - just the way I'm wired. So of course I expect to be able to have AF days in week three!! And I analyze every thought and feeling until I get sick of myself - my poor DH is a saint!! I've just been struggling with this demon for so many years that I want some resolution. Patience is a virtue that must be cultivated

Hi Revert - You will get there. I hope my story inspires everyone to keep going. So many months without an AF and then BAM.....I stopped. I still go out once a week for dinner and have a glass or two of wine but that is becoming less and less enjoyable. What amazes me though is that I can do that. I used to be so hard-wired to get my full quota of a bottle of wine that I wouldn't be able to stop at a restaurant. Last week I left half the second glass and my husband and I went home where I just read a good book.

It was such a long haul for me that I look back and realize that many of those before me were so right....just do the Nal+Al and you will get there. I was beginning to think TSM wasn't going to work for me and I was going to have to go the Baclofen route, but when I was ready, I was ready. Now I'm two months nearly alcohol free. I can honestly say that I enjoy my sparkling water much more with each passing day. There is no craving for alcohol anymore except when I go out to a restaurant for a nice dinner. That seems to be the only trigger I have left to extinguish.

Good luck.

Hi Half and thanks for the support. I have just recently made up my mind to have some AF days and I'm doing it without much effort - I realize that naltrexone is doing the job and I have to put some effort into this with will power and prayer!!! And it works. Glad things are coming together for you too.

Fantastic news HG. Congrats on being very close to a cure. AF days I think are the key to change. Once you get used to having them, they seem to multiply. Keep up the good work. :D

Best wishes,
