I just thought I should share with my fellow UK residents the report that I've just got my first supply of Nal on NHS in the UK! Yay!

I've been buying my Nal online for 10 months from India, which I was always happy about. But I am extra pleased that my NHS psychiatrist has been so understanding that he persuaded my GP on the prescription.

I had been seeing my psychiatrist regularly for a few years when I started the TSM, and I have been always quite honest about my ups and downs to him before/on the TSM, all of which I think helped. Also, as a scientist, I have been really meticulous about recording my progress on the TSM, which seemed to help convince him about the efficacy of the programme.

I know there seem to be different schools of thought about telling your doctors about your condition, so I don't mean to try to convince everyone in the UK that this is the way they should go. But since I was already in treatments on NHS, I do believe I have made a wee progress in terms of making the TSM more accessible to future patients on NHS.

Btw, my GP and psychiatrist are both happy that I still drink on Nal. (they don't force me to abstain).

Anyway, I just thought I should add my case to the list of 'success' cases in the UK. It's particularly good for me, as in the part of the UK I live in, medicine is free on NHS! :)

Best wishes,
Anu

Oh man! That is just awesome news!!!

Who knows how many alcoholics you will help due to your bravery and perseverence! I am such a proponent of educating especially those working in the healthcare sector about Naltrexone and TSM. You are paving the way for thousands of needlessly suffering alcoholics and making it so that there is light at the end of their tunnels as well.

Congratulations!

You have my deepest admiration,

Ketchikan1

Hi Ketchikan
Thanks so much for your encouraging post!

I think I was simply really lucky to have such an understanding, forward-looking psychiatrist on NHS. It probably helped that he seems to trust me in experimenting the whole scheme on myself as I am an experimental behavioural scientist in profession. And I share his enthusiasm about me as a guinea pig - I have to admit I like the experimental aspect of being on this programme on these early days! So all in all, I was just so lucky - not much to do with my efforts!
:)

Excellent news, goes to show the NHS are open to Nal and TSM, and that it is becoming quite possible to get it prescribed by your GP. I think this makes 3 of us on this forum, I am sure there'll be others out there too.

Now fully in control, alcohol no longer bothers me. Chose to go AF from 22nd July 2013.
TSM set me free

Hi Anu,

Great news, whereabouts do you live in the UK? I'm in Northern Ireland and my boyfriend is trying to get it prescribed.....just wondered if you were in the same area......

Many thanks!
