but how do you avoid drinking and driving? More often than not I am not driving when I drink. i will usually drink on my own at home or I am with my boyfriend and he drives. He doesn't typically get as drunk as i might. Every so often though I get myself in a situation where I want to go out and get more alcohol. It can be a struggle for me. I think that my biggest problem is that I live with my parents and they have very little tolerance for my drinkign so I have to hide it often. Also, in an effort to drink less. I try to only buy as much alcohol as i can expect to drink that night. I am starting to think that this might be a mistake and maybe I should just stock up and not worry about that. I guess that it is safer for me to overdrink at home than to go out and drink and drive...
I occasionally go somewhere on my own where drinkign is involved but I think I will start to avoid those situations all together. And either not go, go with a designated driver, or go but not drink.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

Hi Lolo - I used to do the exact same thing and only buy enough booze for one night (since I would compulsively plow through all the booze in the house if any was around). Luckily, I live in an area with a lot of restrictions on when you can buy alcohol, so this would often help me moderate a bit and prevent me from driving back to the liqour store.

As I progressed through TSM, my cravings dropped dramatically, and I no longer became obsessed with all the booze in my house. This led to me not worrying about overdrinking at home, despite having a huge stockpile at the ready. As such, I would recommend stocking up and not worrying about it. Hopefully you'll get to the point where you become indifferent to all the sauce around you, and this should eliminate any drunk driving that could result from a need to restock.

In the meantime, perhaps you could explain to your parents that it's safer for you to drink at home, even if you overindulge, rather than risking a drunken trip back to the liquor store. That way, maybe they'd be more tolerant of letting you keep alcohol in the house (and you wouldn't need to hide it).

That's my two cents, and I really hope you can find a solution that works.

Hey Lolo,
You're right to be worried about this. Drinking and driving is terrifying and you should not continue to do it all if possible. I think stocking up is a solution. Taking a cab is another. Asking a friend to drive you is another. A more drastic solution (but I am REALLY anti drinking and driving...) would be to install a breathalyzer on your car, willingly. Not the cheapest solution but it would completely prevent you from drinking and driving. You could also give your keys to your parents when you are drinking.
