You may listen to a radio show in which a reader describes her experience with the Sinclair Method after 'accidently' being given the book The Cure For Alcoholism intended for a family member.

She had been drinking to the point of black-out for several years having had her first 'wine with dinner' aged 14. She had tried traditional methods without success. She was a fast responder to the Sinclair Method. It is an amazing and heart-warming story and we are immensely grateful to her for coming out and speaking with the media. An additional point which I'll raise elsewhere on this site - the Sinclair Method is not enhanced by benzodiazepine drugs (valium, xanax, ativan) ---- many of you may have become 'used to' these after traditional medical treatments. I'll explain later.

Dr. Escapa, I am very interested in reading what you have to say about zanax.
I do use it intermittently as a sleep aid.
Will the use annihilate the effects or success of TSM program?

Please, everyone stay calm about benzos and TSM until Dr. Eskapa has a chance to explain. I've spoken to him about it a while ago and while it doesn't help, the sky is not falling. I've not wanted to mention anything as I think we should hear it from him but I don't want people to worry because of some third-hand comments.

I am mainly interested if benzos disturb the TSM extinction process. Medically, I can never discontinue their use due to my unusual mental condition (manic only). I wish I could stop taking benzos, but I'd be committed within weeks. I have diminished my benzos to as little as I can stand at present, while faithfully undergoing TSM. I trust that I have not done this for nothing.

Yes Bob and others, I too am concerned as I do take .25mg. of klonipin in the a.m. every day and am wondering if it is counter productive to this method. I hope we get an answer soon!
