Ok, I drink two IPA beers and I'm super buzzed and I don't want to drink anymore. Sometimes I can't even finish the second one. I open a bottle of chardonnay or Riesling and I can drink half a bottle no problem. I actually want to keep drinking, but I don't. What's going on here? Carbonation? I havent tried hard alcohol with the Nal yet. It definitely has cured me from wanting to drink beer, but wine, not so much...

Hi JD,

I hate it that almost my posts are not answered so I just wanted to encourage you. DON'T GIVE UP, NO MATTER WHAT.

I am having severe reactions to NAL and I am feeling very discouraged. But I have done all the research, all the reading. I have worked out the formulas myself on my kitchen table. I have done the math, and I have even figured out the chemistry ....you can't give up. I believe in this medication. there is a miracle waiting to happen for you.

According to my calculations, there ARE differences in dosage as regards types of alcohol use.
Beer, just regular beer, is going to go in the same category as wine, and this, according to MY calculations, could be handled long term with a 25 mg dose.

I am on much higher volume alcohol (92 proof rum) , so I need a higher dosage, and these higher dosages are having a terrible effect on my digestive system.

Stick with it, no matter what. The science is there...the science is PERFECT. It's US who mess with the results.
Good luck!!!
Love and peace,
pyrata

Thanks pyrata for the response. I too believe in the science. And a half a bottle of wine is better than the two I usually drank. And yes I'm still in the honeymoon period. But that's why I'm confused. 24 oz of six percent beer should affect me the same way as a half bottle of 12 percent alc wine. But six times beer and six times wine have produced the same result. Dizzy full unpleasant feeling with the beer and a pleasant but not very buzzed feeling with the wine. Rum and ginger beer was my favorite mixed drink. I will see what happens and report back...

I find I can get very carried away with wine, whereas beer appears easier to control. I suspect it's the strength, plus fact beer fills you up - wine is a lot easier to drink. So you consume more alcohol, quicker which means you go too far before your brain kicks in and says "Hey, I'm nicely drunk, mellow, do not need to carry on".

Makes sense, I still drink what I want but will choose nice beers to drink partly because I actually like them now, and partly because I know I'm less likely to drink as much than if I have wine.

Hi, Jon! I didn't see this, but I have experienced something similar. My experience is I drink much less beer than wine, if the beer isn't light beer. I switched from red wines back to beer for that reason.

Now, for my theory as to why: the heavy beers are filling. It's the only thing I can think of.

Questions to ponder: are you eating before you drink? Have you tried alternating non alcoholic drinks and alcohol? Just ideas.

Another thought is you are very early into the process, so you could be riding the roller coaster, too.

Take care!

If you are primarily a beer drinker (that's what you used to like best) it may also be that that has been the first thing to be "extinguished" by TSM, thus resulting in you not wanting to drink more and not feeling the buzz.
But most likely it's just the alcohol content to volume ratio - it's hard to drink beer as fast as wine and especially as fast as hard liquor (though not impossible of course...)

The strength affects me greatly - drinking 'normal' beers is fine, but if it gets above 6% then things get dicey. Wine or mixers and all bets are off.

I'll add here that last week I had some wine, stopped halfway down the second [smallish] glass. I was eating a hearty meal at the time, so not sure if that had anything to do with it - or perhaps wine has now been extinguished.

I was always a cider drinker, never the cheap stuff really, always speciality or at least Strongbow. Last year when I tried Baclofen this changed to alcopops, then fruit ciders. Alcopops were the first to 'wear' off with TSM, perhaps because that's what I was drinking when starting TSM?I then drank beers and wines, latter because it's a more acceptable popular drink for women, former because I have friends interested in beers. Also had a go at Ginger Beer (alco type), which I supposed is a cross between beer and alcopop. I think I've extinguished that. Not really gone onto spirits although did have a very expensive vodka as a treat shortly after starting TSM. Had some bad experiences during a short Vodka phase, where it was just too dangerous a drink for me so I put myself off it prior to TSM!

No alcoholic drink really holds that much attraction for me any more.

I am only 2 weeks into TSM but white wine was and is my drink of choice. I was drinking two bottles a night for a long time but have cut down to one per night. I think I am going to start buying beer instead of wine. White wine is just too easy to drink fast. I'm going to cut myself off from wine and start keeping a record of units of beer I drink and see what happens. I'm definetely on the roller coaster but I have faith in TSM and I think it's going to be harder to stop drinking whatever you liked drinking the most.

Good luck Dylanzin-

I'm in my sixth week now. Still find it easier to drink less beer than wine. But I barely enjoy either at this point, so I'm more inclined to drink wine so at least I can enjoy the little I drink. Lately I never drink over 3 glasses of wine, two of beer. But yes, I agree with the responses, I think it has to do with the fact wine is easy to drink fast, particularly white.
