Hi EL

Your units are coming down slowly but surely, but perhaps more importantly your attitude to alcohol is changing. As one of the people who's been around here the longest, I don't yet feel like I have regained control, but I do feel my attitude improving too. Alcohol is less of an obsession, thank God!!

I hope your weekend is relaxing and fun. When's your bf back?

Cheers
Sticky ;)

G'day EL, "I really think I'm getting there people!!!!" I agree!!!!. Your figures and ability to keep consumption low once you drink both show convincingly that you are wrestling control back over alcohol. Keep up the great work, congratulations on starting your new business (and good luck) and thanks for being so active/encouraging on this board.

Hi peeps, I've been so busy that I let a weekly recap slide. Last week (which actually ended LAST sunday!) was a total of 14 units. Totally in control drinking the entire week, a slightly heavy Friday night but almost no hangover on Saturday. When my Saturday night plans got totally derailed by a horrific subway accident (a man was decapitated just moments before we were about to get on the train - I didn't see it thankfully, but did see lots of blood and people in hysterics etc) instead of dealing with the frustration and fear and disappointment and horror by drinking I just...got a little cranky, went home with my boyfriend, watched some TV and ... didn't drink any more. I realized that even though I was really upset that my Saturday night was ruined ANd had a bit of existential crisis about death, drinking wouldn't make it any better. It would definitely not bring me the fun party evening I had been looking forward to. So that was a great success.
This week (I can't recap yet because I might have a drink or two tonight, but so far I'm at 17 units) has been a bit less of a success. Too many drinking days have piled up, and the nal leaves me feeling crap. I neglected to take nal on Tuesday night and plowed through 5 bourbons and stayed up way too late and had to call in sick to work the next day. I know, I'm an idiot. It's just a reminder how quickly things slide back when not taking nal. I've gotten to the point where 25mg almost always covers me now, with a hint of self-control at times. However, it's light years difference between 25 mg and 0 mg. Lol. which makes sense, but I guess I was testing to see how much of it was my control and how much of it was the drug. Granted, 5 bourbons is nothing compared to the damage I might have done in the past. But still, that was rough. However, my weekend consumption was good again and most of the days I drank I kept it under 3 drinks. Basically I think that on a week night if I drink I really need to a) TAKE NAL DUH and b) try and keep it to 2 drinks. On the weekends if I have 4-5 but time to sleep it off, I'm fine and it doesn't make me feel crap. On weekdays however it just makes the miserable job so much more miserable ugh.
Anyways, tomorrow I'll roll in with this week's recap, which should be under 20 units (I'm hoping for just 1 drink tonight but we'll see...Sunday nights tend to be a bit difficult in that respect.)
Thanks everyone for the support! I will try and catch up with posts today...

You are almost there, Electra!!!!

Just keep your head about you, unlike dippy at the subway. Egads that's horrific!

I am wondering if I could do the same as you and take 25 mgs. per drinking session. I only drink beer now. Jaegar is off the radar as is the hard stuff. What do you think? Shall I give it a try?

You are absolutely right too regarding the hangovers but if given the opportunity to get enough sleep, all is well. If not: Look out!!! The next day is pretty much blown. That is my main motivator here in production. I am in a make-shift office (a hotel room transformed) sitting beneath dumb and unforgiving florescent lights in an enclosed space. A hangover would perhaps be the death of me here so I don't even attempt to pull off a heavy drinking night.

I'm proud of us kitten..... we are nearly at the rainbow's end!

It's surely right around the bend,

Ketchikan1

Thanks for the support Ketch! I am so glad to hear things are turning around for you as well. I would caution about the 25mg that it really only works if I avoid hard liquor and stick to 1-2 drinks over a 3 hour period or less. After that...it gets a bit less effective. I mean, it's better than nothing, but not great coverage.

Hey Lou -

Nothing like a hungover day to remind us why we want out of the alcohol gulag!

Keep on keeping on. You've come so far!

Oh and weekly recap (for last week) - actually STAYED at 17, as I decided to have a spontaneous AF after all!

Damn, EL - you're almost there. No jinx! It sounds like you really have your personal dosage levels figured out, and I'd like that to be a next step for me (lowering my dosage to 25 mg on moderate nights so that I don't have to deal with a 24-hour span of endorphin depletion...I think this would also dissuade me from cheating on the Nal).

I've really enjoyed following your progress, and I hope all your career-related stuff starts to straighten out. Best of luck to you, kid.

EL!!! Wow! Keep up the good work I am really encouraged by your progress. I want to be just like you when I grow up! :P

I don't know how I'd handle seeing someone decapitated, I hate to see a squarl hit by a car. You handled this with grace I'd say you are on your way to the cured list.

Zippy
