I'm with you Labear . Have you ever tried looking specifically at what Moderation Management has to say about the third and fourth drink ?
I mean , definately one drink is not enough for me . Believe me I've been a very violent binge drinker and thought I had no control . Yet after many years and a peiod of Abstinence I really tried to work what MM said about stopping on drink number four and how to actually take those drinks . it did not work imediately and it did not always work but it did help me moderate . I'm just saying all this because you quite rightly seem bloody worried about spiralling out of control so suggest give it a look over . And this is just possible stuff that could help til the Naltrexone takes off .
I think Smart is abstinence based and rather works on emotions etc . Surely that would be best if abstinence is your decision , and you may benefit from anything that will help you limit NOW.
Well, I'm glad you're not going to chuck this in, pardon me for reading you wrong there .
A liver function blood test gives some indication of the health of your liver if that does concern you to know .
Hang in there , I'm sure you saw others saying they had no feeling of progress for fully two months but some earlier on ..

Elfrin, thanks so much for the support and the info. Don't know about this MM that you are speaking of. Is there a website? When I went to the other website I told them what I was doing here. I think you may just get some newbie's they were very interested in this program.
Guess we are all in the same boat. Yes, had a liver function test done just before I started the Naltrexone and have a script for another test but forgot when my doctor said to have it done. It has only been about a month ago that I had the test done so I think I am o.k. for right now.

richnyc,

You sound like me. I am 51 and I have been in and out of AA for 19 years. Meetings in NYC, Westchestr, CT. I never fit in. Sober for a bit, drunk, sober, etc. I stayed sober for 5 years thru sheer willpower for my kids. I stopped going to AA 5 months ago and began to drink. I found TSM and I am hoepful for the first time in 20 years. I have been doing this now for three weeks. I feel I am making great progress partly because I did not get back to the old ways before I found TSM. Get the book, read it, look at the research on the Web. If you feel you want to drink again then this is the way to go. Best of luck and keep us posted.
Naltrexone + Drinking = Cure.

Regards,
Tom

Rich,

I'm with everyone else. Don't Drink. We are were you are all those years ago and this is where you don't want to be.

Join SMARTRECOVERY.org find a meeting
Join Mywayout.com find the Alcohol Free group and read the new starters and I need help ASAP threads and remember where you were.

Visit a rehab place and see what you used to be like.

Nal is NOT your answer.

Sorry, I don't want to sound rude or not understanding, but we are fighting for what you have already achieved.

If you are having a bad day, week, month year. I'll be your friend and remind you why you are already a winner. you can email me when it gets roughs or if you need someone to talk to. I'll cheer you up, nothing is more funnier than a drunk giving advice :x

I'm with houtx. No one is telling you to make a conscious choice to start drinking. But it would be prudent to get an rx for naltrexone -- just in case. Here is what Dr. Eskapa says in the book we mention frequently on this board:

"If you are currently abstinent, unless you are relapsing, there is no valid reason for you to start the treatment. You are to be commended -- stay with your current treatment if it is working for you." p. 88.

Food for thought.

All the best in your journey, wherever it takes you.
