Thanks for the replys.

My concern is that if the Dr. no longer checks in, is the informaion here really valid, is he still dedicated to this?

I know he checked in a lot as the book was released but over time I have not seen hardly any posts from him. My concern is that is it possible that after the book was released, and the maximum marketing potential approached he decided he got all he could out of this enterprise and bailed? I don't know, I see a lot of desperate people that have had no response from the Dr. At all.

I just want to make sure I'm not wasting my time with TSM.

Thank you all,

LD

LD:

I would not put significance in Dr. E's absence from the board since September. I'm a bit surprised at how much he did post over the years.

This board is "owned" and operated by an ad hoc group of people doing TSM mostly on their own. Sinclair and Eskapa have their own practices and/or research programs and aren't in the business of treating or supporting the folks on this board.

The fact is that there is some good science showing the effectiveness of TSM but it has yet to be given the kind of big, widespread study that would satisfy skeptics. Given that naltrexone is generic, the drug companies won't bother to study it more thoroughly. But maybe addiction researchers will one day.

Many of us, myself included, are giving TSM a shot because the scientific and anecdotal evidence are encouraging enough to make it worth the try. Some folks respond quickly and amazingly. Many others, like me, have to be in it for the long haul before making a judgment.

I suggest you read some of the threads from the cured list. The fellow ~Q~ edited his introduction thread to show all his progress in one posting. You might also look at the timeline to control/cure in the "cured" thread.

If you decide to keep giving it a try, let us know more about yourself and stay checked in. Group support can be a big part of making any major life change. Best wishes!

Thanks for the reply.

I'm not seeing a great decrease in a large number of of folks that post, ultimatley positive results, long term. I wish I had seen better numbers long term. I was really hoping that I would see some impressive numbers. I see see 40 units starting and a 8 months later 38 units.

Seems to work for some. Many others i see a year out and their numnbers have hardly changed.

The fact that the Dr. doesn't even check in to write an ocassional message is very concerning. It seems as though after the initial marketing of the book has worn off he is done, is a red flag for me.

I'm from a big city and very skepical of things, and the fact that he doesn't even check in is a red flag for me.

We are all desperate if we are here, is this Dr. the real deal or has he checked out?

LD.

Uhm, you can choose to do TSM or not. There are many studies that are still being conducted about naltrexone and other medications to control drinking, such as baclofen. A lot of this is happening in Europe but we can hope that it will catch on in the US. There is already a treatment facility in Florida, I think, which has had great success with TSM.
If the doctors were really out to make money from TSM, there would a) be a patent on the method and b) the medication would not be widely available a generic, for a relatively low cost. I think you're making a mountain out of a molehill. This is not Dr. Eskapa's website! This is our website, just a ragtag group of people who decided to do TSM.
Yes, some people have not had great success with nal. Some have regained control after a couple of months, some after a couple of years. Almost everyone had a positive reaction to nal with regard to their drinking (drinking less, being more in control, etc). However, the stories of people who have been cured via TSM are truly uplifting and inspiring, and I'd be surprised if you read them and still seemed so negative about the whole thing.
I can only urge you to give TSM a fair shake for your own good.

I'm not being negitive at all, only trying to be careful. According to the Dr. if you take nal the receptors are blocked. If you stop they become awake again. If you use nal and than stop they are even more alive and the chance of drinking more than before you started is greatly increased. That is what I want to avoid. If nal doesn't work for me, i'll be in worse shape than I am now.

Seeing how the Dr. doesn't even both to check in or post anything on the web, I question his commitment to the entire theory. Only my opinion.

Well, I know a few people on this board have had personal (email) contact with the Doctor, but no, he doesn't come to the board very often. I assume he's a busy man, and doing more studies to further prove TSM's value. You might want to talk to KEtchikan1 - i think she talked to the doc.

I don't want to be a downer, but I think this Dr. has no commitment to this method. I think he just wanted to sell books, now he's outta here, obviously. He doesn't even bother to check in after the marketing winow for his book has past. That leaves me with no confidence this is even valid. Big dissapointment. It's something I can't ignore.

I wish everyone good luck. I am a science based person, but when the author that has checked in when the book was hot, bails after the honeymoon, I get very skeptical.

tsm works whether the doctor visits the site or not. I really can see why its so important. In any case when i emailed said doc he replied withen days and that was only a couple of weeks ago, but its your choice as to how you want to treat your alcoholism. tsm certainly worked for me

best of luck
