NipIt,

I hear you on the additional drinks. It seems once i pass two, I just lose control and have a hard time stopping. I am inspired by your progress. Keep it up and let me know how you are doing.

EoB.

Eventually, your brain will realize that the nal is blocking the good rush from alcohol and your behavior will change accordingly. Patience! :)

Ohmigosh I had a HORRIBLE experience on Tuesday. I had a business dinner meeting out of town that I flew to. I missed lunch, knew there would be fine wines at dinner, so when I got to my hotel got some snacks (peanut butter crackers, granola), and took my Nal with the snacks. Off I went to the dinner. First, before-dinner drinks - I SHOULD HAVE ORDERED SELTZER WATER which is what I wanted, but everyone ordered drinks or a glass of wine so I succumbed to self-imposed peer pressure and ordered wine. Dinner next. Lovely appetizers, more wine, ordered sparkling water too (took THREE asks before the waiter brought it, but he sure didn't mind bringing more wine!), all of a sudden I felt SO queasy. I had ordered a lovely salad, then salmon. I could not take a bite, I felt so sick to my stomach. I managed to ask all the business questions I needed to and stay in the convo, but again felt so bad I couldn't eat a thing (did they think I had an eating disorder). (Oh and I had never met these folks so far - great first impression  ). Dessert was a variety of Godiva chocolate cake, blackberry cobbler, etc. - again normally I would never turn it down, but I couldn't touch it. Made it just to the end of the meeting, then OH MY GOSH, I excused myself, ran to the bathroom and totally emptied my stomach contents. Apologies to the group. Back to the hotel, more upchuck (Sorry). I kept thinking about Electra Lou. I tell you, it makes one NOT want to drink again!. And oh by the way I had no more than 3 sips of that first glass of wine. No more. Anyway, stayed dry the rest of the week. Was going to go for an AF Friday tonight, but husband just called to say he's on his way home with pizza and a bottle of red. Luckily I had all meals today and a good snack not too long ago, so I took my nal, but I do wonder how it will go. At least I'm home with loved one!

And BTW, other than a little queasy & tired when I first started, I've been really enjoying TSM (in week 6 now), no bad SE, and so thankful that nal is helping me to indeed nipit in the bud (usually).

Then surprise. The ugly beast rears its head. But I have faith that step by step Nal and TSM will work its process, and re-wire this brain!!

Meanwhile, off to Mexico on Sunday, nal is packed but I'm going to try for no more than 2-3/night. No crazy 'too-much- tequila' nights for me this time. Please.

Hi Nipit,

I like your user name. Very appropriate! Sorry you had such a bad experience on Tuesday. Perhaps it was food poisoning from what food you did eat. Seems very unusual. Hopefully by now you are feeling better. Keep up the good work.

Best, :D

Hey Nipit, that does sound exactly like several experiences I have had. I've only got two pieces of advice. One is that if I know I am going to be a situation where there is a lot of eating, or I REALLY can't run the risk of vomiting publicly, I only take 25mg. I try to limit this practice, as it doesn't cover me as well, but it usually stops the horrible nausea. The other thing is not so much a piece of advice as much as reassuring you that this SHOULD pass. I haven't had a vomiting incident since about week 17, and the nausea is fairly rare now. So hang in there...I know it's nasty :(

Hi Nipit, I wonder if you were just really anxious about the whole dinner and the deal with Nal just exacerbated it. I know that I've felt very nauseous on Nal before but where I was and who I was with made a difference. Then again I am so new to this that my opinion shouldn't count. :)

Well I survived Mexico & Nal - except the last day. The GOOD NEWS: The first several days went really well, although each day I had more units than the day before. The first three days I was so proud of myself for abstaining from morning / lunch drinks around the pool etc., instead took my nal in the late afternoon then an hour later had a glass or two or three of wine. On the fourth day, I knew the 11:30 snorkeling/boat trip w/lunch and all-you-can-drink would be too tempting, so I took the nal at 10:30 and started on the beers an hour later. Had several beers over many hours and a huge margarita at dinner on the beach, but all in all not bad. Fun day and felt fine the next morning - in fact felt just fine every morning of the trip, and no SE's at all. Except after the last day...

The BAD NEWS: The last day - I "had to" start early (it was my last day!), had to indulge in happy hour (2 for 1 mojitos - yum!), "had to" finish all the wine we had before dinner, "had to" have more drinks with dinner. It's like a frenzied freak out and I just have to GO for it - do I not remember how this just doesn't work for me anymore?!? why I'm doing TSM?!? - all sense just goes out the door. Well I paid for it the next day traveling home - sick in the taxi to the airport, sick while flying - and even the day after that still nauseous. Geez. (It also didn't help that I didn't eat much on that last day...lesson learned.)

I guess for me it's really the bingeing issue talked about on this forum. I can go AF during most of a normal week, even be careful on vacation, but that last day (or that Friday or Saturday of a typical week) I just have to go NUTS. Ugh. Well, that's why I'm here. It will take a while to extinguish these triggers (I've been doing this for over 20 years now), but I'm going to keep at it with the help of nal and TSM.

This week I travel for business, with dinner and drinks planned every night Monday - Thursday. I'll eat properly and take a nal one hour before, then try to keep it to 2 - 3 units. Good luck! At least I am (or should be) very aware of what may happen if I don't...

Best of luck to you this week in your travels. Its always hard when you are alone and there is a sense of freedom to "go crazy while no one is around" Keep going and be good to yourself. You'll get there....

Best,

I know exactly what you mean about being able to moderate for long periods of time and then HAVING to blow it out of the water one day. My therapist has referred to this tendency of mine by saying it's like I need an exhaust valve to let off steam every once in a while, and it probably happens with booze because I don't let myself relax fully and let go withOUT booze. I have found that being less hard on myself (sort of in all aspects of life) helps with not wanting to maximize the drinking. If I am more relaxed the whole week, I'll be less likely to pound drinks on aFriday. It's not a foolproof solution, but stress reduction is good all around so, works for me.
Good luck.
