I am thinking of going on a diet. Well, actually, I am going to go on a diet. I really considering doing a low carb/atkins diet. Does anyone have experience with nal and that type of diet?

I would appreciate any feedback!

Hi HF,

I follow a low carb diet but not Atkins I follow http://www.marksdailyapple.com/ I lost weight and feel great! My energy levels increased and I don't feel sleepy after meals nor do I have cravings for sweets or chocolate etc... anymore, but that might just be because I pretty much eliminated flour products and thus all the additives they contain, I eat a lot of meat, veg and salads but not much fruit, not because they are carbs, just because I'm not big into fruit.

The first few weeks were hard, I really missed pasta and bread a lot. After a while you get used to it, the key is to be organised and always have food at hand, especially protein because if you get stuck, it's very difficult to find non-carb snacks... Being able to eat fat and cream is pure pleasure!

I haven;t noticed any difference since I started TSM.

Are you planning on ketosis?

Diets are really only helpful if you can make a lifestyle change that you'll stick to....anything extreme and you'll likely yo-yo. I don't have much personal experience with dieting, but my father is a doctor and I know he thinks that Weight Watchers is one of the few things that DOES work, because you can eat everything but start to get a real sense of how much food you need and how much is craving. Good luck.

I ate a low-carb diet before nal, during nal, and after nal. I don't think the nal affected it in any way.

I have done Atkins in the past and it works like a charm. You lose weight fast, no hunger. It is very tough to stick to though. I always had trouble with drinking while on it that screwed me up.

My wife eats low-carb as a habit. Very little bread, sugar, fruit, and she looks 25 even though she is 42. Perfect weight and fitness. If you can stick to it, it works.

Good luck!

I did the atkins diet while on NAL and drinking. I did lose weight, but much slower than most do on atkins. This is because the AL messes with your blood sugar levels.

Just really be careful which types of AL you drink. You are going to need to stick with the hard AL like vodka. Red wine doesn't have many carbs, but if you are still drinking like 5+ units a day, then you will blow your carb count with wine. Beer is totally out. One beer will blow your daily carb count.

Bottom line is you just aren't going to lose weight very quickly.

Good luck!
