Hi Taylorcrest - I have not been on this site in ages...months & months. I got your pm but thought I'd reply publicly in case there are others in the Houston area. I would recommend you contact Dr. Woodham...my relationship with him changed over the course of the year I saw him. He is a "take notes on your case on the computer" guy. I went from taking NAL to BAC to TOPA with him. He was very easy-going and I always went in w/ my books and research but it really didn't make a difference. He was/is familiar with all the off-label uses of most of these anti-addictive drugs. Knew all about the claims of NAL, BAC & TOPA and did not hesitate to prescribe if that's what I wanted to try.
I retract any earlier claims that he was/is a quack. Not at all. He just doesn't really offer "therapy" unless, I guess, you want it. I didn't. I just went in for the meds, answered his questions, was very frank, and he always wrote me a Rx for what I wanted...and upped the dose as needed. Actually, I ordered BAC online (HATED IT!!!!!!!!!), but Dr. Woodham prescribed NAL and TOPA (hated the brain fuzz & did not lose weight, as many rave about. Dammit!!!! LOL).
I am off all meds for drinking right now...TOPA made me "dopa" and NAL didn't really work at all for me even when I went up to 100 mgs after a year or so. No SEs, no nuttin'. However, my drinking is still the same as ever (regular - 1 to 1 1/2 bottles/day) and I rarely have AF days...can't remember the last one. I spend too much time worrying about my drinking, thinking about what a loser I am, and then coming home from all that I do (work, errands, successful ****, working out regularly, etc) and opening up a bottle of wine. AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. But I am a highly functioning alcoholic...no major problems, never affected the job, etc
So far my overall health is good, but I am concerned about my health if I keep acting like a fool at this rate! A stroke when I get up one morning?? A malignant lump with grave prognosis? Aw dat - ?? Scares me!!
So to answer your question, My Dr. Woodham (see number in previous post) would be a good prospect for you. Good luck and I am seriously thinking about going back to NAL - maybe the 2nd time will be different, so some say -
Will keep you posted. This was a great site for so many of us several years ago when the book first came out! Lots of us "originals" still keep in touch via FB or just personal emails. We all had so much hope...I have not read thru much on this site right now, but wondering if the "method" is more successful with more ppl finding out about it. Hope so!! GAWD - I was Sooooooooooooo hopeful.
But now, 2-3 yrs later, more educated on different meds and website (My Way Out - tho haven't been there in ages either), many new friends who I can share this concern with...but I do really miss how we'd all get on here and post regularly. It was very therapeutic! Hope so too for the ones on here now...I'll try and check it out.
Good luck to you all! XO
