Hi there,
It sounds like the nal is defintiely working for you - an immediate decrease in cravings and consumption are both part of the honeymoon period. Don't be alarmed if your units go back up in a little bit- TSM is a bit of a rollercoaster, but it's obvious you respond to nal from this first reaction.
As for problem drinker or not...if you're worried about your drinking, then you're in the right place. It's great that you are able to go alcohol-free a lot (that will be good for you in the long run) but obviously the desire to drink alone is troubling you. Good luck!
EL

Sounds like you are taking corrective action before it's too late.

If you had been arrested; seriously injured in an alcohol related fall / accident; had problems at work or at home then it's easier to say, "Yes I'm a problem drinker."

Taking your total down to 3 units per night puts you within safe / normal unit levels - excellent progress if you can maintain this.

I'm naturally a curious person, so may I ask what led you to Naltrexone and this board? I'm only asking as most people only reach out once they hit rock bottom ;)

Keep up the good work and post regularly.

Good luck,

Andy

Thanks to all who replied my post. I started drinking beer 11 year ago. I was almost alohal free until I turned 25. Then I moved abroad and lonely there execept spending 8 hours at work. First it started on every Friday. It used to 1.5l to 2l beer with couple of movies. I stared enjoying alocohal and slowly it developed in a everyday habbit. TThe only AF will be when I was going to be with family. I have been trying to cut down since 9 years but I was not successful. So I started searching and came across this site. I really want to be AF as my family members are...my father and one bro never touched alcohal in their life. I was alcohal free until I completed my university. Most imortantt things is that I restricted myself to beer only.

It sounds like you are making the rigt choices and being very mature about your plans.

If it's for cultural / religious reasons then I can understand why you don't want to drink.

Your will power seems excellent - and Naltrexone will help to remove the cravings that you have. Remember, you must take Naltrexone 1 hour before you drink, every single time you drink.

I wish you all the best,

Andy.

Hello Friends,

Now I have been 3 weeks on nalextrone. Progress has been good so far. It is helping me in staying in office late and that is what I wanted. I just do not want be lonely at home. If I am lonely then I tend to drink more. So far I have been restricted to one beer only. Let us hope for the best.

Hey Hello 237,

Wow. I am 41, and have had a bad alcohol problem for probably the last 10 yrs. The thing that I can't believe is that, like you, I went all the way through university, to my wedding night, alcohol free.

At the age of around 24, I decided that I would drink a little, once in a while to be social. Then, I drank on Friday nights, then on weekends, then a couple a night, then.....etc. etc. etc.

Please take my advice and never drink without NAL again. I wish I had found this cure when I was your age. Control slipped away from me little by little until I lost control and almost lost everything.

Read my story if you feel like it. If not, good for you to stick to this program. Don't ever drink without NAL. Your life will be fine from here on in.

Hello Everyone,

I would like to share my progress. Good news is that I have been alochal free for last 15 days. I started on Sinclair method on 14th of July. In the first week itself my beer intake went down. After one week, I added baclofen 30mg. per day as well. As soon as I added Baclofen, I somehow stopped enjoying alcohal. I stopepd taking Nal around two weeks ago. I have titrated down Baclofen to 10 mg per day. I take it in the evening. Whatever craving, I do get in the evening, are suppressed by Baclofen. Please let me tell you one thing, will power is also playing a role. I wish, I could have got these medicines 10 years ago then I would have saved at least 2 years of life which I wasted in drinking beer. In these cases you do need a friend who can help you and can guide you.

May GOD bless eveyone.
