Hey there - I just registered - I was/am very much like Vince - have not begun the Naltrexone yet but aftre last the last month, especially last Thursday nigth when I drank more than I ought or ever want to and things became very "dark" and foreboding if not downright frightening - I intend to give it a go. I have no intention of drinking again until maybe the 30th of July - but will take the pill, perhaps .25mg and hour before the event and see where it goes. then repeat as needed, meaning, take the pill each time I intend to drink and carry one or two with me in my wallet in case an unexpected occasion arises.

I was in AA for over 25yrs and will not go back. My drinking since I left has been mostly okay - but there are those occasions when I drink too much and "darkness" sets in. It has been three years. The darkness actually comes and goes - but I don't like it all and it is not worth any kind of "buzz". Really. There has also been some trouble (an ex girlfriend who I drank with and sparks flew - good and bad - but the bad outweighed the good - I am sure there are those reading who can relate). But I do not want to give it up entirely either. I would prefer to be the type of person who is content with one, two or three drinks at an occasion and leaves it at that. I am hoping the Naltrexone will be the key that unlocks that door.

is anybody on this thread reading me?

Hey Don,
Sounds like you're in the right place. Nal will help you gain control over your drinking so you can take it or leave it, so you can be the kind of person who has 1-2 drinks and calls it a night. Best of luck and maybe start your own progress thread?
EL

Thank you so much EL. The encouragement is profoundly appreciated. Sure, I'll start a progress report but honestly I don't get it... Please uncode it for me.. To me it often appears as though the drinking is increasing over time. I must be misreading them...?

Ah, yes. The beginning or middle of the graphs can be a bit misleading, as after the honeymoon, people often see a spike in their drinking (back to pre-TSM levels or almost). However, that spike is almost always following by a steady decline in drinking. for some people it's faster than others. Also, however, the graphs don't show the more intangible but amazing effects of TSM - more clarity, more control over drinking, growing indifference to alcohol, no blackouts, etc. If you need some info/inspiration, check out Minneapolisnick's thread!

Hi Vince,

I'm a weekly binger. Always F night, sometimes F and Sat. 8-10 drinks per evening. I've been doing TSM for 1 year and 9 mos. I don't know if it's decreased cravings, but I just ordered more NAL and will keep doing the system because I don't want things to get worse. I'd like to have just a few in social situations. I think that it takes longer for us because we are not extinguishing daily. For me, it's usually just F night.

There is a section in the book that states the method is also for those that want to prevent full-blown alcoholism. That's where I am. Welcome aboard; let's keep posting since we are fellow bingers!

Hi,
I'm an infrequent binger myself.. once a week to once every three weeks but NAL has made it easy to not drink the next day and so the day after that and often times again another day. I've started drinking again the next morning since starting NAL and then just felt like 'eh.. that's weird.. that's when it's really apparent to me that I'm not getting the 'reward.' The night before when it's business as usual and I'm not really having a problem with the fact I'm drinking I'm noticing it but all that much because I have a high tolerance but when I try and re-up the next morning - when my intention is always to have a hair of the dog but had turned into always being another day of drinking - it's really obvious to me that I'm not getting the Woohoo but I do get what I'm looking for in that a couple-few drinks rights whatever inside me and now I'm able to walk away not hungover until a week or a few weeks later when I almost invariably decide to drink again no matter how much I try to out think myself in the mean time.

Still bingeing F nights. Lately, F and Sat, but it takes too much out of me. Depression, fatigue, sore liver. Last week just F night, and I feel much better.

I'm hanging in there; it's too simple not to!

Hi Vince,

I vehemently believe Nal is the cure for binge drinking. I was a big binge drinker... only once per month but always suffered from alcohol blackouts and some horrendous consequences.

Nal will absolutely work for you - in fact, I think it works even better for Binge drinkers. You can find my long thread here... I have also summarised my thoughts on a blog: http://www.theonymousalcoholic.com/binge-drinking-cure/

Best of luck and keep us posted,

Andy
