Hi All,

I've been very bad at posting, but have kept up with reading your supportive info. I've been taking Nal for 7 and 1/2 weeks now. Consumption hasn't changed much. Had a spike in the beginning - so glad I expected it, based on what I've read.
Now drinking more out of habit. Working on reducing the day drinking, to get back to my "normal" night drinking. That would cut down to half, then work on reducing that.
Husband is asking for results now - have told him a couple of times that it takes time - but it has been 2 months.
Any advise?

Catmando

Hi Cat - I don't know that I have any great advice, but you might mention to your husband to notice the small changes. At 8 weeks I was still seesawing all over the place with my units, but I did notice that I was no longer getting drunk many nights a week, that I was no longer fighting with my husband, that I had stopped yelling at my kids, that I wasn't stumbling around, that I wasn't slurring my words, and that I wasn't experiencing any terrific mood swings. This takes time and both he needs to know that and get comfortable for the long and bumpy ride. Everyone's progress in TSM is different. I thought mine would be textbook and instead it is excruciatingly slow. Still, my life has changed dramatically. I have a clear head most nights and although I still drink plenty of wine (right now 4 units a night), my family no longer even comments on it.

I hope that you can get him to read some of the forum entries here. That would help him a lot. Good luck to you Cat. Just keep on Nal-ing along and you will get there.

Thanks Half. Talk about noticing the small changes - the other day I actually hadn't finished all the wine. Couldn't believe it

Depending upon how long you've been drinking, TSM usually takes 6 months to a year to fully work. No one regains control after only 2 months.

Nick,
Just feeling pressure from husband, and rightly so, not because of nal but because of me totally abusing myself by drinking every friggin day. Why I can't be "normal"

Oh yeah, we can all relate to that. You'll get there.

Unfortunately, the amended formula is "drinking + naltrexone + patience = regaining control/cure." Gotta' have the patience. ;)

Maybe have your hubby read members of "the cured" who still drank tons at 2 months, only to regain control... Just a thought.
