Hi all!! I'm so happy to have found this site.

I added a post onto an old thread, but thought I'd ask my question again as a new post just in case.
I'm looking forward to giving Nal a try. I've started running as a way of de-stressing and taking my mind off drinking. I have a 10k comming up and am training 5 days a week. I thought maybe if I planned carefully enough I could have Nal-drinking days and training days... But, as Eskapa's book mentioned, you need a day for the Nal to clear your system.. so as not to block the endophins from healthy habits as well. I'm finding it hard to plan this well.

Any advice or experiences.. I know some people report no problem exercising with Nal.

I figure I should be Nal free for the long run days and race day (the day before).. those are hard enough as is.. I need all the positive reinforcement for those.. but maybe on the eve of my easier training days.. I can also have a Nal-drinking evening?

Thanks!!
BoniR

BoniR,
I wouldn't overthink it. Unless you are in the tiny minority that has continuing side effects from the nal after the first couple of weeks, I bet taking nal and running won't be a problem. Just take the nal in the evening and run in the morning if possible? It is true that it takes UP TO 24 hours for a 50mg pill to be out of your system, but I've had no problem taking nal on, say, a wednesday night, and working out on Thursday in the day. Obviously, for a race, you might want to not drink the night before anyways so that solves that :)

Don't worry about it. I run 5 days a week and did throughout TSM with no ill effects. The possible extinguishing of positive behaviors is overstated, IMO. All of us daily exercisers had no problem with the naltrexone. Nal on!

When I first started Nal I did not notice any effect on my work-out (I was once a competitive 5K runner). After more than 7 months on TSM, I have noticed a drag on my next day workouts. You might try to benefit from the up-regulation of opiate receptors: Train extra hard on the days that Nal is out of your system. I would also make sure you have had at least a 24 hr wash-out of Nal before you race.
Nal has never effected the frequency or my desire to continue my work-outs. Good Luck.
