Hi,

I am using this thread to keep a summary for myself of what happens with or to me.

I was sober all the week then I started yesterday for the first time with Naltrexone - 25mg 1 hour before drinking.

I felt nausea (also before drinking). Still managed to drink a full bottle wine (13.5% x 750 ml = 101.25ml alcohol / 17.7 ml = 5.7 US units).
Normally I would keep on drinking more - but I could not do it. Partly because of the nausea caused by Naltrexone.

I will keep on taking 25mg Nal until I feel better with it - to then increase it to the full dose of 50mg

An additional side effect I noticed are cramps in the calves in the night/morning.

Feels so far good to take it. I have a very good mood, and stayed clear during drinking - although I noticed getting drunk. Altogether a very positive feeling - also in the morning.

More to come ...

You sound like you're doing great Craving. I found the side effects eased with in a week.

Sounds like you're using good sense. For the cramps, drink LOTS of liquids (besides AL :) ), and take a potassium supplement - or eat a lot of blueberries, bananas, etc.

2nd day

25mg Nal - this time it was not 1 hour before - but 2.5 hours before. (Very hard to predict the moment you are going to drink especially if you depend on other people (and car you may have to drive yourself))

Generally Nausea much better.

Managed to drink 6 US units Whisky. I noticed that Nal is changing my behaviour. Mainly I can not drink as fast as I used to, it feels like I can not handle it (feels like if I do it too fast it will all go up through the mouth again).

still getting drunk and getting the feeling I am used to. So can't really see why people think they would give away any "pleasure" when using Nal. All feels fine - drunken.

People seem to feel differently here . Some say it feels the same others say some kind of magic is missing but they get a buzz anyway and it seems worth it . It's important to always hold in mind that this seems important to us but the real change is going on at a level we don't feel . So if your buzz feels as always that's good , it might change , and if it does don't worry .

What is the positive effect? More or Less?

Being an underweight person myself, diminished appetite is a negative effect, which I experience a lot on Nal.

Bob,

I have added through alcohol the last 2-3 years approx. 20-30kg (40-60 pounds!)
When I drink I often start to eat without a stop - like my stomach becomes a black hole.

Seeing that my appetite is getting less - and especially when drinking that I do not eat will help me lot not adding up extra kilos - and to maybe loose some of the weight I added up.

When I eat I feel much faster the "stomach full" signal. I do hope that this won't disappear later on after the side effects have gone.

craving -

In my case, I still have a diminished appetite, even after all the Nal side-effects have abated.

Anyway, that's my current experience. I have no idea if it is "typical".

Bob

PS If you are overweight, then you can take advantage of the lower appetite over the next 4 to 6 months to shed some pounds. So you have a double "blessing".
