Hi prototype, thanks for your info. Sorry to hear tsm didn't work for you. For research on this thread etc. Would you please mind if you could tell us how long you tried for, units etc.

Hope you got there in the end.

prototype,
please do let us know how your tsm experience went. i agree that some or even many of those who stopped posting did so because they were not (or did not) having success. gathering info on who it does not work for may also be helpful for those of us in the process.
as galoot said, i really hope you have found another way that works for you. :) if so, let us know that too.
thanks, and all the best to you,
path

Thanks for doing all of that gruntwork path! It does help put things in perspective. Hopefully people reading this thread will commit to posting about their experience, whether they considered themselves "cured" or if they feel TSM didn't work for them. The bottom line is it's all about kicking this disease's nasty little 'arse, and helping people find strategies that will positively assist them with the asskicking. I hope I'm one of those folks who will continue to offer support even after I add my name to the cured list and I appreciate folks like BGH, Firebird and others who maintain an active presence on the site to share advice and props. It's a scary thought to me but I doubt I would have stuck withTSM if I wasn't so well prepared with what to expect (from reading others' posts) and the encouragement I received here.

I've seen this kind of question asked on other alcohol related forums, people wanting to know how many members had attained abstinence, and for how long etc... I'm sure lots of forums ask similar questions.

The low number of active posters in relation to total member number is fairly common, for example, I have two accounts here because I forgot my first password, how many people has that happened to? Others come for a while, leave and come back under a new persona. Many just log on to see what TSM is all about, although you don't need to be a member to do that, but many sites have members' only areas so perhaps some thought TSM.net is the same. Others come because they just want some info but don't intend to do the method. Other people are already sober for a few years and are tempted to try TSM but haven't yet taken the plunge, (cough-cough) Others just don't realise the importance of having all this information and statistics so they log on get the gist of how it's done and then just do it at home. Others arrive all gung-ho but then find it too much of a P in the A to count units and write their experience, so they don't bother, still others "drop out" of TSM for whatever reasons, this group is very important, it would be really helpful to know why people start the method but don't "finish" it, it could help us help them and help us find a weak link in the method.

Setting up a short list of rules or requests for members who decide to do the method, might be helpful, things like

- please record you weekly units and AF days in your signature (I find that SO helpful)
- if you are cured, please put your name in the Cured list
- if you are not cured and have decided to stop TSM, please put your name in the Not Cured list with an explanation as to why you wish to stop- how long you have been on TSM?, are you taking other drugs?, have you a medical condition? and so on
- And other stuff that you guys know far better than I do.

For people to be able to play the game, the rules and playing fields have to be laid out.

I have often wondered why Dr. E and Dr. Sinclair seem to take so little interest in this forum, are there other European forums? Maybe that's another reason why people drop out, perhaps they feel that if the founders of TSM aren't participating, then no one is taking this seriously??? I don't know if this is so, I'm just throwing it out there as a possible explanation.

Another possible reasons is that this forum is very slow, it only has a few posts per day compared to a few hundred or thousand on other drinking related forums, maybe they are "socialising" else where?

Curi

Curious, those are all excellent points and they make a lot of sense to me. I like your rules too, but I don't think there is any practical way to enforce them. They do make a good set of guidelines for regular posters here on the forum though. Personally, I wish everyone would post their weekly units in their signature. It makes it so much easier than having to search through their thread to figure out how they're progressing.

Figuring out why people quite TSM is also important in my opinion, but I think most of those who quit have moved on and have little interest in sharing why TSM didn't work for them.
