By any standard of testing, I fit the model of alcohol/drug abuser or dependent. But I know 12X12 is at best a band-aid for me, & with each go-round its effectiveness grows shorter.

I've had success before with buprenorphine, but the psychiatrist's prescription was pharma (including a plethora of anti-depressants & mood stabilizers), abstinence, & AA. Got over-stressed one day & went to get drunk. And I got drunk ... only I wasn't drunk (i.e., euphoric). After that, I canned meetings & pharma & went back to old faithful.

I'm more than curious about this method. It sounds Pavlovian, but I'm not so proud to think I can't learn something from a drooling dog.

Long story short: Is any one aware of MD's or Psych's who are open to the method in the NYC area. I don't own a car, so commuting is an issue.

Any help or input would be welcome. Thanks.

Welcome to our group!

I don't live in the NYC area but some do. Perhaps they can answer your question. Remember, t's a long journey, but at least its a lot shorter journey than the one that got us here. You'll probably have the Nal honeymoon period where you see immediate effect, then that will pass and you may get discouraged. Many do. I did and I probably will be discouraged again.

The point is you make a 6 month commitment and stick with it and NEVER GIVE UP. If nothing happens after 6 months, no harm done; but most likely (80%), pharmacological extinction will occur and you'll be in control again! Keep a record of the number of "units" you are drinking and also a subjective craving number (1-10), then chart that over the next 16 to 26 weeks. It appears (to me at least) that after 10 weeks or so, significant positive changes will occur. I have not read otherwise.

Anyway, consider that in under a half year you will not only be in control of your drinking, but you will be CURED!

Bob

PS If this looks similar to another one of my posts, it is because I plagiarized myself. I want to treat the new members equally.
