St. Jude - So nice to hear from you and that your obsession has turned to something other than alcohol. Your weight loss is as amazing has your alcohol reduction. Keep up the great work and keep letting us know how you are doing.

Hey St. J -- good for you on all fronts! I have 25 pounds to lose and I haven't been able to cut down on the AL enough to conform to a diet yet, so I applaud you for being able to do so. Having read your thread, I checked out your diet. Do I understand the diet correctly and that you are getting a shot every day? If so, who is giving you the shot? I'm interested in how this works, although not too hot on shots myself...

A NEW LICENSE ON LIFE!
This Saturday marks the one year anniversary of my DWI. There's nothing like being handcuffed in the back of a police car to make you realize that if that's not rock bottom for you, you are one seriously screwed up pup. Even after that I kept on drinking my 3-4 bottles a day and unbelievably, driving drunk. At my court date in August I pled guilty to aggravated DWI ( my BAC was .34 three hours after the accident--I struck several parked cars--and I was walking, talking, and remember everything). I had my license revoked for a year but thankfully avoided jail time & probation. I was blessed to discover TSM in October after beating myself up in outpatient rehab and AA meetings for months and feeling hopeless.
I jumped through the hoops I had to for motor vehicles and got my license back today. I'm so humbly grateful for everything TSM and this forum has done for me. I've lost 40 lbs so far and am back to exercising every day. I won't declare myself cured because I know I'll have some hurdles to face as my social life improves for the better as I shed my fat suit in the coming months--but I can't believe what a difference 6 months can me. Thank you all!

St. Jude, so happy to hear from you again. Congrats on the license, weight loss, and success with TSM. It's amazing how much we can improve our lives when we take control of it.

I've been meaning to post a congratulations on your thread for your new found good fortunes. It sounds like things are going great for you now. Perhaps the control you have will continue even with a renewed zeal for socializing. You can be the skinny designated driver for your friends. Who doesn't need one of those? Seriously you have continued to amaze me with your ability to have AF days and stick to your diet. Very impressive. It never ceases to amaze me how alcohol is like tossing a hand grenade into life. When it's gone everything kind of self-corrects. I'm looking forward to following your progress and seeing you on the new and improved "Regained Control" list when the time is right. :P

Boy, this forum moves FAST these days-reminder to self do not stay away for 3 weeks. Trying to catch up with new faces here & old friends.
I'm still plugging away with my diet. I've lost 45 lbs since 1/24/11 (another 75 to go) and am just starting to fit into my old fat clothes and feel not like a beast. Focusing on that has made not drinking relatively easy. I saw my NAL doctor a couple of weeks ago and he basically told me that unless something changes to make an appt w/him sometime in the fall, I have a tons of NAL refills I haven't used. That was a good feeling and I shudder to think of the traditional outpatient rehab I was forced to endure for months.
Boyfriend & I went away for weekend to friend's place for her annual passover/easter dinner, she has a huge dinner party every ear. Last few years I've gone I needed to drink at least a bottle of wine ahead of time to get primed for the dinner, I'd hide it in my suitcase and chug it in the hotel room. Friday night I had one glass of wine with dinner, no desire to drink more and woke up the next day feeling a little tired but fine. Saturday night was the big dinner party and I had 4 units over the course of 6 hours. Never felt drunk or out of control although as St V experienced at his barbecue, it sure was amusingly entertaining to watch people disintegrate over the course of the evening. Gosh, that was me at EVERY social outing for years.
I know this is repetitive but I still have to pinch myself sometimes to remind myself that this is reality I'm living in. Everything in life was so crappy when alcohol was the center of it, and now it's just not. No life is not perfect, and I have yet to hit the Powerball jackpot, but anything good that happens to me now is like icing on the cake (mmm, cake--haven't eaten that in months!). A whole new perspective of "**** happens." Well, I know **** and even my worse days now are a million times better than my everyday life pre-TSM. I still have a long road in front of me but even being on the road is only possible because of NAL. For those you you who are new here, I cannot stress enough how critical this forum has been as a source of ongoing support and information. No one else knew I was doing this and this site became my therapists couch. AND it's free! Sending positive energy to all of you.

Awesome post St. Jude. It so wonderful to hear how all aspects of your life have improved sans alcohol. When you are ready we'll add you to the regained control list. Be careful when you go out I hear you skinny people can't drink much. :)
