started baclofen 8 days ago and seen some promising results. I'm still taking nal but will stop when I hit the switch. Bac is helping me cope with non drinking days but still have a long way to go as only on 70mg and will probably titrate towards 300mg. Got hammereed last night but so far easy to cope with a sober day on the bac!

Having success on Baclofen :D

early days but it is very, very promising. I can't believe how relaxed it makes you but best not to titrate too fast. It's tempting to do so as we are all in a hurry to succeed but titrating too quickly causes side effects. I reduced to a more steady titration and feel great!

Drank 5 UK units of alcohol (approx 3 x 500ml of light ale) over last 3 days and thats doing some as it's Christmas time! Find it easier now to have AF days. When I have drank I still take my Nal as precaution but hopefully won't need to take it for much longer as I will hopefully hit that switch.

I don't want to knock Nal but there are so many success stories with Baclofen. Nal works great for moderating consumption but Baclofen makes you indifferent to wanting to drink. Had a can of beer last night and I may as well of been drinking milk. I could taste and enjoy it but it wasn't the same as it used to be.

Please feel fr to pm me if you want any more info....

Cheers,

Galoot

aprox 8 weeks into tsm + Bac and still having encouraging results. Still titrating VERY slowly on Bac. Up to 110mg per day. Haven't drank for 3 nights but might have a beer later. Took NAl 1 hour ago. Weekly units down to approx 50 -60 UK units and that is damn good for me. I reckon this combo is the way to go as the AF days are so much easier to manage on Bac. Bac works on the Gabba receptors whilst Nal blocks the opoid receptors.....double trouble for alcohol!

sad news (for me) - looks like I will have to stop baclofen as side effects are not tolerable any more so cannot increase my dosage. It's a shame as it has great potential. I will stick with Nal and tsm....

Well, after 9 months on tsm I am now convinced it works in reducing incidents of heavy drinking. I am almost cured in that regard but still drink regularly eg. About 60 UK units per week. However it is only that high because I want to give myself some nights off the nal as I'm worried about it blocking other desires if you know what I mean! Pre tsm I was at least 120 UK units per week so a huge success. Nal will continue to chip away on my urges/enjoyment of alcohol. My only concern is that it blocks other pleasurable experiences that I enjoyed when drinking.
Well done David Sinclair and Roy Eskapa and not least Dr Josh Berkowitz.

Interesting. Isn't the whole purpose of TSM to block the pleasurable effects of drinking so as to lead to pharmacological extinction? Do I understand correctly that you sometimes drink without NAL?

If so, I'm curious how often you drink without taking NAL and how long you wait between taking NAL and then drinking without NAL. As mentioned in Eskapa's book, there is the phenomenon of receptor upregulation which causes receptor supersensitivity after you stop taking NAL. If you drink alcohol without NAL a few days after taking NAL it can be dangerous as there are an extraordinary large number of opioid receptors in your brain which can produce added reinforcement when the endorphins are released from drinking (see Eskapa's book page 121, for example).

Take care.

Hi galoot

Have just read all your posts with interest. To be honest i had almost forgotten about the supposed reduction in pleasure from other activities. Can't say it's been a problem in the bedroom (hubby would have let me know if it had!!) but now i come to think of it i haven't been so keen on sweet things. I used to crave them or use them as a substitute for not drinking in my periods of sobriety.
Baclofen is not available in New Zealand. Sorry to hear the side effects were too bad to continue.
Well done on you reduction in drinking with TSM. Keep it up!

Hi everyone, I've had huge problems getting logged back onto the site so haven't been on here for months. The lost log on reset codes are impossible to read!

I'm sure there are are at least one or two of you who have read my previous posts questioning the validity of tsm and my journey with other methods such as baclofen, topirimate and I also tried ondansetron. I can definitively say that naltrexone ie. Tsm is the most successful and that Nal was still usually used in conjunction with the other meds as I had been continuing to drink anyway. Having said that, I am still drinking heavily (approx 60 UK units per week) after 15 months on almost continuous tsm. My levels are pretty much the same as after about 3 months on tsm but that is good. As mentoned last year it is about a 40/50% reduction so cheers to Sinclair!

Very importantly I would like to point put that I have observed that my love of red wine has been 'extinguished' as this is what I drank most especially during the first 6 month of tsm. Even now I struggle to finish a bottle whereas give me beer or whatever and I can drink 50% more .....easy!. I guess what I'm am trying to say is that if you want tsm to work stick to your regular poison! I since moved on to other types so in time I'm finding Nal is extinguishing them too. It's a slow process but worth it....don't believe this quick cure stuff.

Hope that makes sense?

Cheers,

Galoot.

Thanks galoot - I've been thinking about trying other drinks next weekend, guess I'll stick to beer :)
