Can I please get some advice? I started NAL on November 15, 2010. I did 25mg for four days, then went up to 50mg. My problem is that I have side effects, awful headaches, irritability, severe nausea, abdominal cramping and major gastrointestinal distress (that's a nice way of putting it). I have been trying to wait it out, but I am almost done my 4th week and it has not gotten any better. My units have gone from 56 to 53 to 50 to this week less than 50, so I am making some progress, but my life has been crippled by these side effects. I am strongly considering dropping to 25mg, but fear I will derail progress. I need advice from anyone who kept on at 25mg. I am a daily drinker and have been for five years. I only have my 3 or 4 glasses of wine between about 4:30pm and 6:00pm. Never drink at any other time. Would the 25mg be okay for me because of this? Any and all advice is hugely appreciated!

I'm sorry you are having such nasty SEs! I don't know if going back to .25 will help but I don't think you have any choice! Give it a try for a week and see. As you don't drink huge amounts over a very long period you should be ok. The .25 is not the dose recommended but if that's all you can tolerate, go for it. From what I've read, you will have protection.

You know, if could be the wine. Can you drink something else?

Personally, I take .25 as well and as I too only drink 1 or 2 at the most I feel protected at that dose. I had considered going back to .50 but as this method is working so well for me, even with some bumps in the road, I'm on .25 again.
